Parents Charged in Sad Case of Child Abuse

ROY, Utah. (ABC 4 News). Two parents were charged for ghastly crimes against their young children, Wednesday.

Jaimie Stoddard and Brandon Babbitt were each charged with three
class-A-misdemeanors of abuse of a child, and a third degree felony for
tampering with witnesses.

Roy Police Chief Greg Whittim said that
the investigation began in the middle of January when Child and Family
Services tipped police off.

The charges stemmed from the parents disciplining their children, who are aged 6, 5 and 4.

“We have three, very small children that were being subject to horrific
abuse inside of a home, with people, with parents, that should have been
loving and nurturing and in fact they were abusive and torturing,” said
Whittman.

According to Whittman, on a number of occasions, one
parent would take an electrified dog collar and hold the electrodes to
the child’s body, while the other parent would hit the button to shock
the children.

There was also evidence of soft tissue damage and bruising to the children, which is consistent with hitting.

According to statements that the victims made, they were also forced to eat dog food more than once.

During the process of the investigation, the parents committed a felony by
contacting the kids, trying to get them not to talk to police.

Stoddard is the natural mother of all three children. Babbit is stepfather to one and father to two of the kids.

“The kids are in a safe environment now,” said Whittman. “They are getting
the care and nurturing that we hope all children in our community would be getting.”

How these crimes against their children could be misdemeanors is beyond me. That means even with the felony they won't do much time.

They were misdemeanors because the police and cps came in to that family and find a bunch of toys and family games and were caught off guard of how it looked because it looked like they were having a great family night until the cops showed up the dad did do a little bark collar on his arm on level 7 cause his kids were shocking the new dog they had gotten at 15 so it was hurting the dog so the dad demonstrated on himself and showed the kids why it would not feel good in the dog but the kids thought it was funny so he turned it down to 1 and did it on the oldest kids bum he laughed so the other two kids tried also laughed and said a 9v on the tongue feels way weirder and then the cops showed up 1 year and 4 months later to investigate on Jan 15 2013 when it happened in October 2011 the cps officer also got fired for leading the questions for the kids and the detective said he was a marine are you gonna shock me like a dog they said no and HE said maybe you can make me eat dog food then. None of the 3 kids ever ate dog food these parents went through hell and back to fight for these kids and they were never even arrested so that right there goes to show that not all news stories are stories until theres been some editing Im all about kids not being abused but this family luckily did not they actually sued abc4 for slander and defamation of character thats why its not on there anymore and someone just used this article to try and ruin the fathers job and his families life its pretty sad people cant do their research to find out the truth
