Marilyn Edge, 42, of Scottsdale, Ariz., faces murder charges in the deaths of her children.
SANTA ANA, Calif. — Two children found dead in a Southern California hotel room after their suicidal mother crashed her car outside a shopping complex were a 13-year-old boy and a 10-year-old girl, a police spokesman said Sunday.
The children's mother, Marilyn Edge, 42, of Scottsdale, Ariz., was arrested Saturday and booked on suspicion of murder in the deaths, Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna said.
Further information, including the names of the children, the motive and the cause of death, was not being released, he said. The children's father lives out-of-state and was not notified of their deaths until Sunday.

Edge was driving a car with Georgia license plates when she crashed into an electrical box outside a shopping complex in Costa Mesa on Saturday morning. Her most recent address was in Arizona, Bertagna said, and it wasn't immediately clear why she had come to Orange County.
After the crash, Edge refused to get out of the car and tried to choke herself with a belt or rope as rescuers worked to free her, he said. Police found propane in Edge's car.

Two children were killed at the Hampton Inn Suites in Santa Ana, authorities say.
As she was being taken to the hospital, Edge told authorities they could find her children at a hotelin nearby Santa Ana. After officers discovered the bodies, police obtained a search warrant late Saturday for the hotel room and worked overnight on the case, Bertagna said.
"Last night, it was mainly trying to figure out who these people were and dealing withthe scene itself," he said.
No weapon had been recovered from the scene, Bertagna said.

Crime scene investigators photograph a car believed to be driven by a woman who allegedly triedto commit suicide by ramming it into a utility box behind a Costa Mesa shopping center.
Hotel guests were stunned at the discovery at the quiet inn on a sunny weekend in Southern California.
"My goodness, if there's two children involved that's just horrendous to say the least," Mike Ramey, who was staying at the hotel with his fiancée, told KABC-TV. "As a parent, it's just a heart breaker."
It wasn't immediately clear if Edge had an attorney. She has not yet made a court appearance.

Marilyn Edge, 42, made her first court appearance on Tuesday to face murder charges in the deaths of her 13-year-old autistic son and 9-year-old daughter.
She slumped on a bench in the Orange County, Calif., jail as the judge spoke to her over a video feed.
Judge Craig Robinson asked Edge if she wanted to postpone her arraignment until Oct. 25.
“Only if you promise me the death penalty,” Edge said, repeating her answer when the judge asked again.
A prosecutor said the death penalty is exactly what Edge gave her children.
"The only death penalty I've seen her be efficient at was the death of her children,” Deputy District Attorney Sonia Balleste said outside court. “All the rest is just talk."

Edge, shown on a monitor during a video arraignment, tried to strangle herself after crashing her car into an electrical box, California police say.
The Scottsdale, Ariz., mom had recently lost custody of son Jaelen and daughter Faith in a Georgia court battle.
She promised in a text message to deliver the kids on Sunday to husband Mark Edge, but she’s accused of killing them first.
On Saturday, Edge slammed her car into an electrical box outside a shopping complex in Costa Mesa. She was sitting next to a propane tank and trying to strangle herself with an electrical cord when rescue workers arrived, police said.
Edge eventually pointed cops to a hotel room where they found the dead bodies of her two kids.
Court documents indicate the children were poisoned.
Atlanta police broke the news to Mark Edge. The distraught father was hospitalized for duress.

Edge, right, is shown with Orange County deputy public defender, Arlene Speiser, on Tuesday in Santa Ana, Calif. Edge allegedly poisoned her children to death before crashing her car.
The couple had fought a bitter custody battle since their divorce in 2007.
Marilyn Edge won full custody in October 2009, but had recently lost control. A Georgia judge sliced child support payments in early September and imposed joint custody.
On Sept. 11, a judge ordered her to surrender full custody to her husband by noon Sunday.
Marilyn Edge could face the death penalty if convicted of murdering her children, but that won’t be her decision.
Judge Robinson ignored her requests on Tuesday and postponed the arraignment.
She has been on suicide watch since her arrest.

Dad pushing for tighter laws after ex-wife charged with killing kids
Posted: 7:52 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2013
By Liz Artz
COBB COUNTY, Ga. — A Cobb County father whose ex-wife is accused of killing his two children is calling for change in the courts and new legislation.
On Thursday, their children, 13-year-old Jaelen and 9-year-old Faith, will be laid to rest.
Mark Edge admits his kids' death hasn't completely sunk in. Investigators say his ex-wife poisoned the kids in a California hotel room Sept. 14. He says since their divorce in 2007, she has kept the children from him, even absconding to Arizona after he was granted visitation a year ago.
The distraught father told Channel 2's Liz Artz that Marilyn Edge used the kids to get back at him.
A Cobb County judge granted Mark Edge temporary full custody, calling it an extreme case of parental alienation -- when one parent says things to children to turn them against the other parent. Investigators suspect she killed the kids the day before she was supposed to bring them back to Georgia.
Mark Edge says his ex-wife kept him from putting the children on his military benefits. He's now trying to raise money for their funeral and travel funds to go to California for the murder trial.
He's set up an account on gofundme.com, but he also wants training in the courts. He told Artz he wants parents who are going through a divorce to be trained, and he wants lawmakers to take notice and change laws when it comes to parental alienation.
Willie Watkins funeral home, in Atlanta, is taking donations for Jaelen and Faith.
