SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (WDTN) - A day after deputies said his actions triggered and Amber Alert, Mark Edwards appeared before a Clark County judge and pled not guilty to the charges against him.
Edwards, 43, of Springfield, was arrested in Clark County just before 10 a.m.
'Thursday, about 90 minutes after abducting a 14-year-old female from 1578 Faux Satin Dr. in Springfield, according to Clark County Sheriff Gene Kelly.
The teen was with him in his SUV, unharmed, when he was arrested.
Investigators said there was camping equipment and a cooler full of food in the vehicle and it appears the teen left on her own.
The teen's mother told 2 NEWS her daughter left a letter saying she wanted to be with Edwards. She said her daughter was "blinded by love."
2NEWS wanted to know what you can do to protect your child. Child counselors Sue Fralick, with the Mental Health Services for Clark and Madison Counties, said go beyond just asking questions.
"Usually there is a change in the child's mood or attitude. Not wanting to do things with the family. Wanting to seclude themselves more, be in the room, more privacy," said Fralick.
Before Thursday's incident, Edwards faced three charges by the Springfield Police Department, including unlawful sexual conduct with a minor.
His bond was set at $50,000 for the original charges and another $1,000 for the Amber Alert incident.
