Remember: A woman and girl murdered in KC, but whose bodies were never found

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The families of two people, presumed murdered more than a decade ago in separate cases, but whose bodies have never been found, want the public to remember their loved ones and perhaps help solve the cases.
Shirley McKeown, 70, left her home at 9129 E. 44th St. on the morning of Aug. 24, 2002. She was never seen again. Her car, however, was located Sept. 3, 2002, abandoned at 33rd and Highland with a very large amount of Shirley’s blood inside.
The car was hidden behind trees and covered with a tarp. The personalized Missouri license plates, “MCQ-N,” had been removed, and police have never recovered them.
Tabitha Brewer, 15, left her Shawnee home on the night of April 27, 1998, with her boyfriend Nicholas Travis to meet up with someone in Kansas City. Nicholas’s body was found buried at 5422 Paseo, but Tabitha was never found.
She had a “TD” tattoo on her ankle and was last known to be wearing earrings, a bracelet, a necklace and a silver ring with a purple stone. Her burned purse was found in a trash bin on the corner of 55th Street and Paseo. The man charged in their homicides was acquitted at trial.
Sergeant Babcock and the victims’ families hope someone knows something about where Shirley and Tabitha are so they can have closure.
Their families plan to attend a meeting Friday night of the Parents of Murdered Children and Other Survivors of Homicide Victims at 7 p.m., at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 2552 Gillham.
“The families of these victims go through so much extra pain because they don’t even have a body to bury,” said Sergeant Everett Babcock, a new board member of the KC Chapter of Parents of Murdered Children.
