Police: 3-Year Old Shot In Miramar

MIRAMAR (CBSMiami) —  A 3-year-old girl is in the hospital after shots rang out in a gated community in Miramar.

The toddler was rushed to the hospital by ambulance. The shooting happened at the Silver Falls community around 9:30 p.m..

CBS4′s was able to obtain video from inside the gated community just moments after the shots were heard. The video shows the girl’s father pacing and looking stressed, as well as the mother. She was interviewed by police before being allowed to go to the hospital to accompany her daughter.

According to police, the mother is the one who called 911 to report the shooting.

“What we are told is that the child and the mother were the only ones home,” said Tania Ruez of the Miramar Police Department.

The girl’s condition is unknown.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office said it’s very early in the investigation, and they’re still working on getting answers themselves.

No Charges Filed In Shooting Of 3-Year-Old Miramar Girl

MIRAMAR (CBSMiami) – A 3-year-old girl remains hospitalized in unknown condition after being shot in her Miramar home.

According to police, the child was home with her mother when the shooting took place in the 4300 block of SW 132nd Way in the subdivision of Silver Falls.

The girl was taken to Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital in Hollywood.

CBS4 News obtained video from inside the gated community just moments after the shots were heard. The video shows the girl’s father pacing and looking stressed, as well as her mother.

Investigators say the gun that was used belonged to the girl’s father.

“There are others who live at the home, but what we were told was the mother and the child were the only ones at the home, obviously it is premature for us to go into any further detail,” said Tania Rues of the Miramar Police Department.

Police said the mother called 911 around 9:00 p.m. to report the shooting.

After talking to police, she was allowed to go to the hospital to accompany her daughter.

One neighbor, who didn’t want to show his face, said he was walking by when police arrived at the home and that it was pretty intense to watch.

“I was walking and then the police banged on the door yelling, ‘open the door, open the door’ and then the lady opened it screaming and yelling,” said the neighbor.

Both parents were questioned separately by police and no charges have been filed at this point.

The child’s great grandparents spoke with CBS4′s Summer Knowles Thursday morning.

“I was devastated, trying to find out what really happened,” said Herbert Raines, the child’s great grandfather.
“We’re hoping it is an accident, but we’re not sure, because nobody is giving us all the facts,” said Lucy Raines, the child’s great grandmother.

911 Call Released in Shooting of 3-Year-Old Girl in Miramar

Miramar Police have released the 911 call made by the mother of a 3-year-old girl who was shot inside her home.

"She shot herself, please, please hurry up," the woman is heard telling the 911 operator in the call, released Monday. "She shot herself in the stomach."

Police said the girl was shot Wednesday night inside the home on the 4300 block of Southwest 132nd Way.

"Please hurry, she's fainting," the mother tells the operator, before pleading with the child. "Stay, stay with me baby, breathe, breathe, breathe baby."

The girl was taken to Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital in Hollywood, where she remained Monday. Her condition is unknown.

No one has been charged in the shooting, which remains under investigation.
