LORAIN, Ohio - The body of a Bowling Green State University student who disappeared after a Cleveland concert was found today in a Lorain County landfill.
Cory Gene Barron, 22, of Fremont was last seen around 9:30 p.m. Friday at Progressive Field, where he went to hear country music singer Jason Aldean.
His body was found around 1 p.m. today in New Russia Township at a landfill owned by Republic Services, according to Capt. Jim Drozdowski of the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office. The site is roughly 30 miles west of the Cleveland Indians stadium.
Republic Services reported the body after one of its trucks dropped refuse at the landfill, said Captain Drozdowski. That truck’s route included the area around the stadium, he said.
There were no obvious signs of trauma to the body. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.
Mr. Barron was a senior communications major at BGSU.

Concertgoer's death: Garbage chute theory
WKYC Staff, Chris Tye, Kristin Anderson, Hilary Golston
11:55 a.m. EDT July 23, 2014
NEW RUSSIA TOWNSHIP, Ohio -- The Lorain County Sheriff's office has confirmed to WKYC Channel 3 the body found Tuesday at the Lorain County Landfill is Cory Barron.
Barron, 22, of Fremont had been missing since a concert at Progressive Field on Friday.
Sources tell WKYC that Barron had his ID and ticket on him and that his body has no physical signs of injury or trauma.
Barron's body was discovered at the landfill around 1 p.m. Tuesday. Cleveland police arrived at Progressive Field soon after his body was discovered.
The Cleveland Indians released the following statement:
The Cleveland Indians are saddened by the news of Cory Barron's untimely death and wish to extend their sincere condolences to the Barron family and friends. We are cooperating with the authorities in their investigation and do not have additional comment at this time.
Law enforcement officials do confirm they are investigating the possibility that Barron fell down a garbage chute.
"I'm not going to speculate at this point," Cleveland Police Commander James Chura told WKYC's Hilary Golston. "Looks like he could have fallen into the dumpster or crawled in there or something. It is still under investigation... We just got to see where it's going to go."
So far, police are still labeling the case a "dead body investigation," rather than a homicide investigation. However, Cleveland Police Commander James Chura reports they're treating the case as a homicide investigation to give it as much priority as possible.
Chura went on to tell WKYC, "We're checking the scene. The dead body was found in the dumpster, so we're looking at all the access points to the dumpster... throughout the building."
There are multiple dumpsters at Progressive Field. One garbage chute extends five to six stories. The dumpster Barron was found in was not specified. However, Chura would say the dumpster was "close to" the section Barron was sitting in.
Police will also sift through video shot off Progressive Field cameras to see if they can collect any additional information that way.
Chura said police will have a better idea of what happened, once an autopsy is completed through the Lorain County Coroner's office. The Lorain County Sheriff reports the autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow.
Lorain County Coroner Dr. Stephen Evans initially described the body as belonging to a man in his 20's.
The landfill, on Oberlin-Elyria Road, is operated by Republic Services Inc.
Bill Bachman was at the Friday night concert. "It was just a bunch of great people enjoying awesome music from Jason Aldean," Bachman said. "You would have never noticed at all. You had thousands of people basically screaming for a concert... having fun," Bachman told Golston. "Nobody was ever thinking about something that horrible ever happening."
Doug Leslie frequents Progressive Field for Indians' games. Leslie says the incident will not change his behavior, even while police work to figure out what happened. "I'm on this street once a month... have been for 11 years," Leslie tells Golston. "I've never felt in danger...been to Indians games been to Cavs games... there's something more behind it."
Jason Aldean, one of the artists who performed at the concert Barron attended, tweeted his condolences from his verified Twitter account Tuesday evening:
My sincere condolences go out to Cory Barron's family and friends. My heart is heavy for you all and you are in my thoughts and prayers.
A vigil for Barron was held at Fremont Ross High School Tuesday evening.
No official cause of death has been determined. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday.

I'm so sorry for his family and hope that he really wasn't killed by someone and then left in a dumpster- losing someone to murder is so heinously senseless and evil. Losing a loved one by any means is still lifelong hole in your life.
