Los Angeles toddler, 3, dead after becoming trapped in hot car 

The child was found unresponsive around 3:30 p.m. in the Sylmar section of the city, police said. Temperatures reached the upper 90s on Wednesday afternoon. The death marks the 19th hot car death across the country this year.

A 3-year-old boy is dead after climbing into and becoming trapped Wednesday afternoon inside a hot car in the Sylmar section of Los Angeles, police said.

Temperatures reached 96 degrees in the California metropolis, though it’s unclear how long the child was stuck inside the boiling-hot vehicle.

Police responded to the 14400 block of Foothill Blvd. around 3:30 p.m. to find an unresponsive child, police told the Daily News.

The boy had been playing in the yard when he climbed into the parked car and became trapped, Officer Bruce Borihanh said, and was eventually found by his brother.

The toddler was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.

A parent was home at the time, according to police.

“There has been no arrest,” Borihanh said. “It was a tragic accident.”

Footage shot by KTLA-TV showed a black truck and a sedan in the home’s yard. Police told the news station that the boy clambered into the sedan.

The boy’s death hot car death was the 19th across the country this year, according to a San Francisco State University tally. Three of the tragedies have occured in California, tied with Texas and Georgia for most in the nation.
