Missing NM girls found in Mexico

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – An Amber Alert for two Albuquerque girls has been suspended after the girls were found safe.
Sunday morning, they were reunited with their mother after officials say they were taken into Mexico.
The person behind it all is their father who is now locked up in El Paso.
Bernalillo County sheriff’s deputies say Oscar Marquez is the father of the two girls.
He was not supposed to be alone with them, let alone take them to another country. Deputies say he has family in Mexico.
The sheriff’s department says the girls, 9-year-old Genesis Marquez and 11-year-old Trinity Marquez, are in good health.
KRQE News 13 learned Oscar Marquez and the girls’ mother are in the middle of a divorce and that she had a temporary protective order against him.
The sheriff’s department says the girls were dropped off at their grandmother’s home Thursday night for a supervised visit, and were gone the next morning.
APD had been working the case earlier before the mother went to BCSD..
Deputies say when they got involved, they learned the girls may be in danger, and that’s what prompted the Amber Alert at 8 p.m. Saturday.
“The main thing is the endangerment of the children,” said Sgt. Aaron Williamson. “And that was the big thing yesterday, and it was by going through interviews and talking to additional family members that we were able to obtain that information.”
Oscar Marquez is facing felony charges of custodial interference. He has a history of domestic violence and child abandonment.
KRQE News 13 has been told that other charges could be coming as the investigation moves forward in this case.
The mom said she reached out to APD first, but APD didn’t issue the amber alert. The sheriff’s department did.
