Despite burning evidence, Wilmington man heading to prison for sex crimes with kids

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- A Wilmington man will spend at least 16 years in prison after pleading guilty to more than two dozen sex crimes involving two children and child porn.
A judge sentenced Tracy Alan Swager, 50, to between 16 years and 24 years three months. Prosecutors say the crimes involving the two children occurred over three years.
The DA's Office says the New Hanover County Sheriff's Office charged Swager in November 2013. When they tried to serve a search warrant, investigators say Swager burned evidence they were trying to seize. Despite the damage, detectives still recovered multiple pornographic images of unidentified children from other electronic devices in Swager's home.
Swager was convicted of two counts of first degree sexual offense and 25 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor.
As part of his sentence, a judge ordered Swager undergo an immediate mental health evaluation, forfeit all electronic devices and have no contact with the victims and their families. He must also register as a sex offender for the rest of his life and is subject to satellite-based monitoring.
