Amanda Salvatori
According to an autopsy, the baby's death was "consistent with sudden unexplained death in infancy" but asphyxiation "cannot be excluded," the Associated Press reports.
Anthony John Donvito
Either way, however, the baby's parents may have been in no position to help their child, due to the prescription drugs in their systems at the time.
As a result, the parents, identified as Anthony John Donvito and Amanda Salvatori, both 26 and of the Scranton area, were arrested Thursday on charges of reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child, AP is reporting.
Their newborn son was found blue and lifeless next to them in bed after they had taken a painkiller and anti-anxiety medication on Jan. 22, AP writes, adding:
The baby was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Both parents tested positive for oxycodone and Alprazolam, according to the Times-Tribune of Scranton.
