A former sex offender was convicted Wednesday of raping a 9-year-old New Mexico girl and then sentenced to 133 years in prison.
A Quay County Court jury found 30-year-old Kenneth Leon Mills guilty
of 3 counts of criminal sexual penetration of a child under the age of
13, criminal sexual contact of a minor in the second degree, aggravated
burglary, first-degree kidnapping and intimidation of a witness.
Prosecutors say Mills - a Curry County resident - entered the girl's
home in Quay County on Aug. 26, 2008, forced her out of bed and carried
her to an alley behind the house.
Authorities say Mills forced the girl onto a trash container, sexually assaulted her and returned her to her home.
The girl went into her mother's room and told her what happened and
the woman immediately called police. Mills was later arrested and
charged by Tucumcari police.
Prosecutors say Mills will be required to serve a minimum of 85% of his sentence before being eligible for parole.
