"Baby" SACHER - 6 weeks - Portland IN

A Portland woman accused of
severely injuring her daughter has been found guilty of a misdemeanor
charge by a Jay Circuit Court jury.
Ruby E. Sacher, 23, had been charged with battery resulting in serious bodily injury, a Class B felony that carried a maximum 20-year prison term.Jurors
deliberated for about five hours Friday before finding Sacher guilty of
a lesser charge, battery as a Class B misdemeanor.Sacher,
who had been in custody since December, was released after Judge Brian
Hutchison sentenced her to 180 days in jail, which she had already
served.Defense
attorney Melissa Forcum Danielson maintained another person had
inflicted the injuries to the six-week-old baby, which included arm,
leg and collarbone fractures.Portland police said Sacher had admitted to severely shaking the child.
