A father from Washington, D.C., whose family disappeared nearly three weeks ago, is in South Florida to continue his search.Lance Leverenz's son and daughter disappeared last month, along with his ex-wife, he said.Leverenz
said that investigators told him that his ex-wife, who has extended
family and friends in West Palm Beach and Miami, was recently in South
Florida."We did find out that they had driven to South Florida,"
Leverenz said. "Their car was spotted at a distant relative's in Miami."Leverenz
divorced his wife, Lydia, in May. They had shared custody of their two
children. During the first week of school, Lydia and the two children,
10-year-old Andrew and 12-year-old Kathryn, disappeared."She has
contacts in South Florida and she has family in Nicaragua," Leverenz
said. "One of the concerns we have is she would try to take the kids
out."Leverenz filed a missing persons report and has been
working with a handful of law enforcement agencies, including the
National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

MIAMI -- Monday is the 10th annual 'Florida Missing Children's Day' and one father will mark the event by continuing the search for his own kids in South Florida.
Three weeks ago, Kathryn Leverenz, 12, and 10-year-old Andrew Leverenz were abducted by their mother, according to the children's father, Lance Leverenz.
“I just felt my whole world shift -- just horrible,” Leverenz, said as he described his reaction when he learned that his ex-wife moved out of her home in Maryland with their two kids.
He said the became concerned when the children didn’t show up for school.
Last week, police received information that Lydia Leverenz was possibly staying with relatives in Miami or West Palm Beach. So, Lance Leverenz packed his bags and traveled to South Florida.
He’s been posting flyers and pleading for help from anyone who will listen.
“I’ve got to find my kids. I’ve had three weeks since I even heard their voices. I’m going out of my mind. This is a nightmare. I have to find my kids,” Leverenz said.
Lance Leverenz has legal custody of his children, who he feels are probably trying to reach out to him. Lydia Leverenz is a Nicaraguan citizen and there is a concern she’s trying to leave the country with the children.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is cooperating with authorities in Maryland who have issued two felony warrants against Lydia Leverenz for kidnapping. There’s no reason to think the children are in danger, but their father is growing more concerned each day he doesn’t hear from them.
”There’s never been a history of her hurting anyone, but this has been such a bizarre reaction for her to pack up and flee, we don’t know what she’s capable of,” Leverenz said.

accused of parental abduction in the past faces jail time if she
violates conditions placed on her while on five years of supervised
probation.On Tuesday in Frederick County
Circuit Court, Judge G. Edward Dwyer Jr. suspended 18 months in jail for
Lydia Leverenz, a mother of two.Leverenz, 46, pleaded guilty in
January to two counts of detaining a child out of state, according to
court records.In August, Leverenz's ex-husband, Lance Leverenz of
Washington, was awarded sole legal and physical custody of their
daughter and son, according to court records.But the next week,
Lydia Leverenz and the children were reported missing, according to
documents.Lydia Leverenz was convicted of taking the children to
Florida in September and detaining them, court documents state.On
Tuesday, Dwyer also ordered Leverenz to have a mental health evaluation
and to complete any programs ordered, Assistant State's Attorney
Lindell K. Angel said.Leverenz has been granted phone contact
with her children, Angel said.Assistant Public Defender Margaret
A. Teahan could not be reached for comment.
