Re: JAMIE LYNN LOVINO, 11 YRS, Jacksonville Beach FL
Jacksonville Beach police have found 11-year-old Jamie Lynn Iovino, the girl who had been missing since Tuesday morning.
Sgt. Thomas Bingham said Iovino was found Tuesday around 10:30 p.m. at a store on the Westside.
Bingham said a Jacksonville Sheriff's Office missing persons detective was working off-duty at a T.J. Maxx when he stopped her.
"He spotted a suspicious juvenile female, called her over," Bingham said. "Started putting two and two together as far as being a juvenile out late. Thankfully, she's going to be returned home to her family nice and safe."
Bingham said there were reports Iovino took JTA busses to get to the store. He said she was alone when the detective found her.
Bingham said it appeared Iovino took off by herself and didn't tell anybody.
Police said Iovino had last been seen at about 7:20 a.m. Tuesday while she was leaving for San Pablo Elementary School.
Bingham said officers and detectives conducted an extensive search around her home and the path she would have taken to school on Tuesday evening.
Bingham said the girl's parents reported the girl missing after she didn't come home from school. He said they called the school, and the school said she was not at school all day.
"Me and my mom went somewhere and we came back and she still wasn't home at like 3:30, and she should've been home," said Nicole Iovino, Jamie's older sister, Tuesday evening. "So we just called the school and they said she wasn't there all of today."
Nicole said her parents were extremely worried about her sister.
"They're devastated right now," she said earlier Tuesday. "They don't know what's going on. They just want to find her."
Police said there was no note left indicating Jaime was leaving. They said they interviewed dozens of her friends and classmates and they knew nothing of Jamie going anywhere.
Police said there was no indication the girl was abducted or kidnapped.
