The Overland Park Police Department is asking for the public’s help
in locating a missing woman who authorities fear may be in danger.
Keighley Ann Alyea, 18, of Overland Park, was last seen at her home around
midnight on Tuesday. Police describe her as as 5 feet, 1 inch tall, 113
pounds with black hair and brown eyes. It is not known what she was
wearing when she disappeared. Police have interviewed two young men whom police had said previously may have been with Alyea.“Nobody’s
in custody. Nobody’s been arrested,” police spokesman Jim Weaver said
today. “We just needed to talk to them. They knew her and were friends.”Weaver
said police are particularly concerned about Alyea’s well-being because
she was the victim of domestic violence earlier in the week.“That’s certainly a factor, and that she’s been gone so long,” Weaver said.Police have checked Alyea’s phone records and found nothing that would indicate her whereabouts, Weaver said.Alyea’s
case has been entered into the FBI’s National Crime Information Center
database as a missing person who is possibly endangered. The missing woman drives a dark green Mazda 626 four-door with a Kansas license plate 198 BOV. Her car also is also missing. If you see Alyea, notify the Overland Park Police Department, the law
enforcement agency in the jurisdiction in which you saw her, or call
the TIPS Hotline, 816-474-TIPS.

Re: KEIGHLEY ALYEA - 18 yo (2009)- Overland Park KS
Police in suburban Kansas City continue to talk with friends and family of a teenager who's been missing for nearly a week.
Overland Park police say 18-year-old Keighley Ann Alyea was reported missing Sept. 29.
A patrol officer located her car Sunday night and police say it's being processed for evidence.
She's described as 5-foot-1-inches tall, with black hair and brown
eyes. It's unknown what she was wearing when she was last seen at her
home.
Also on Sunday, police questioned a 22-year-old man about Alyea's
disappearance, but the man is not considered a suspect and was
released.

Re: KEIGHLEY ALYEA - 18 yo (2009)- Overland Park KS
Poster's Note: Doesn't $25 grand sound a little high for a telephone harassment charge??? Sounds more like the want to keep this "person of interest" close to HQ...
A man questioned Sunday in the disappearance of 18-year-old Keighley
Ann Alyea is still being held in the Johnson County jail on a 2007
warrant for telephone harassment.
Sean Michael Merritt, 22, is being held for failure to appear on the charges with a $25,000 bond.
Overland Park police questioned Merritt on Sunday, but few details have been
released. Police say they took information from Merritt and were
tracking other leads.
Alyea was last seen late last Tuesday. Police say they consider the 18-year-old's disappearance "a
missing/possibly endangered person."
On Sunday, a police officer on patrol found Alyea's 1993 Mazda 626 parked
behind an apartment complex next to a dumpster near 62nd and Foster in Mission, Kansas.
Overland Park police spokesman Jim Weaver indicatesthat
the car is being processed for evidence and that should be done by the
end of the day. However, whatever the police find likely won't be made
public unless the Johnson County District Attorney's office gets
involved.
Alyea is described as 5-feet-1-inches tall, 113 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.
Police have already questioned two men -- Jaymes Beebe and
Dustin Hilt -- but released both after questioning. Beebe was being
held in the Johnson County jail on a prior disorderly conduct warrant,
but he bonded out the same day -- September 29 -- that he was brought
in.
Alyea's family has started a "Bring Keighley Ann Alyea Home!" Facebook page. They're also collecting money through all Kansas City branches of Commerce Bank for a reward. Alyea's uncle Ed Frentrop saysthat they're already collected $2,000.
Frentrop also saysthat he's heard that everyone questioned is being swabbed for DNA. He also
says that when Beebe showed up to help with a canvas, he was told to go
home.
Alyea's friends and family don't believe she had a
boyfriend at the time of her disappearance. They say she was living in
an apartment in Overland Park, working at an Arby's and taking classes
at Johnson County Community College. They also say it's totally out of
character for Alyea to not be in contact with her family and friends
for so long.
If you have any information about Alyea's disappearance, call the TIPS
Hotline at 816-474-8477 or the Overland Park Police at 913-895-6300.

KEIGHLEY - Found Deceased
Keighley Ann Alyea had been missing for almost a
week, since the last Tuesday. To locate her, the Overland Park police
had been on a thorough lookout, having launched a widespread search
through the whole week. Tragically, similar to the case of Annie Le,
the Yale student who had gone missing and was found dead later, the 18
year old Alyea too was found dead by the authorities.
Jim Weaver, the spokesman for the Overland Park police has revealed
to the press that Alyea’s body had been discovered on the night of Oct.
5, Monday. According to the revelations of Weaver, it has also come to
light that the police have also arrested three men in connection to the
death of the teen. The police had also been seen carrying out an
elaborate search on Monday evening, at a house located in 64th and
Melrose in Shawnee, that was supposedly in relation to the teen’s
murder.
The Overland Park police department has also released a statement
which is reported to state that all further information on the issue
would be delved on Tuesday by the Johnson County District Attorney
Steve Howe. Over the weekend, the vigil had yielded some results when
the authorities had been able to recover Alyea’s 1993 Mazda (dark
green), unoccupied and parked on 6200 block of Foster Street in Overland.

The body of Keighley Ann Alyea, the 18-year-old Overland Park woman
missing for almost a week, was found Monday evening in rural Cass

9:30 p.m. in a farm field near the intersection of East 235th Street
and South State Route K Highway, police said.An autopsy is
scheduled for today at the Jackson County Medical Examiner’s Office,
the Cass County Sheriff’s Office reported today. They are working with
Overland Park police, they said. Three men arrested by police Monday are in jail awaiting formal charges in Johnson County, police said.Alyea
hadn’t been seen or heard from since about midnight last Tuesday. A
patrol officer found her 1993 dark green Mazda 626 over the weekend,
parked in the 6200 block of Foster Street in Overland Park. The officer
found the unoccupied car around 6 p.m. Sunday, and police towed it to
search for evidence, Weaver said. It was unclear how long the car had
been there.Alyea’s parents declined to comment Monday night.“I just broke the news to my 14-year-old daughter, one of her best
friends, who was actually supposed to be with her Tuesday night,” said
Alyea’s uncle, Eddie Frentrop. “I love my niece. I love my brother, and
right now we’re all hurting and we just want to have some peace and
quiet tonight so we can talk and love each other, and we should be
ready to talk in the morning.” Friends began posting comments
on the Facebook group “Bring Keighley Ann Alyea Home!” immediately
after police made the announcement. Some spoke directly to Keighley.“We all love and miss you, and I hope that you have a great life in heaven,” one poster wroteOthers sent condolences to her family.“Our thoughts and prayers are with Keighley’s family. Frentrop, “and talk to people on Facebook and talk to people on her
phone and text people. She talked to her mom and dad every single day.
She talked to my daughter almost every single day through texting and

interviewing residents who lived near where Alyea’s car was found and
checked trash containers in the area, Weaver said.Alyea’s
parents don’t know of any friends or acquaintances she had at the
apartment complex where her car was found, but her friends think she
did, Bastel said.Family and friends taped fliers on doors at
those apartments and then headed to the Overland Park apartment complex

Re: KEIGHLEY ALYEA - 18 yo (2009)- Overland Park KS
Three men have been charged in the death of 18-year-old Keighley Alyea.
Dustin
Hilt, Joseph Mattox and Gerald Calbeck were all charged with
first-degree murder and aggravated kidnapping in Johnson County court
on Tuesday.Alyea disappeared a week ago and did not make contact
with either friends or family. Police found the body of the missing
18-year-old in a rural Cass County, Mo., field at around 9:30 p.m.
Police have not released what led them to search in the remote location.Police
had been searching two homes in Johnson County, Kan., earlier in the
day -- one in Overland Park and the other in Shawnee. Policed collected
evidence and took pictures at each of the scenes. One of the men
arrested is an 18-year-old who was interviewed a few days ago by
police. The other two men arrested are 18 and 21. None of the three has
been officially charged in this case."It just kind of shakes me
up," said Alyea's friend Jaymes Beebe. "I fell asleep for a little
while last night but I've been up ever since. I know they've been up --
everybody's been up all night. Just worried to death trying to find out
why and what happened. And where she was at and how they did it. And
why they did it, if we can get an explanation."One of Alyea's
friends told KCTV5's Shaun Broyls that one of the men arrested was
Alyea's ex-boyfriend and they were in an abusive relationship. The
body was found in a field near East 235th Street and State Route K just
north of Harrisonville. The public information officer for the Cass
County sheriff told KCTV5's Greg Adeline that the body was found near
the north fence line. The body was found about a quarter to a half mile
away from the roadway.

Re: KEIGHLEY ALYEA - 18 yo (2009)- Overland Park KS
A Kansas teenager allegedly murdered
by her ex-boyfriend and two others regained consciousness after she was
attacked and kidnapped — but the three suspects chose to "finish
killing her," her uncle told reporters.
Keighley Alyea, 18, was found dead late Monday in a farm field near Harrisonville, Mo., after disappearing a week earlier.
Alyea's former boyfriend Dustin Hilt, 18; his cousin Joseph Mattox, 18; and his
best friend Gerald Calbeck, 18; were charged Tuesday with first-degree
murder, aggravated kidnapping and aggravated robbery.
The teen's uncle, Eddie Frentrop, said police told Alyea's father that she
was initially attacked in her hometown of Overland Park but woke up
after she was abducted.
"Somewhere along the drive out east of Harrisonville, she regained consciousness,"
Frentrop said. "At that time, they had the option to do the right
thing, and they chose to finish killing her."
Alyea's best friend, Jessika Beebe, said she tipped detectives off that Hilt
was behind the teenager's disappearance because of the couple's
violent, on-again-off-again relationship.
"He's abusive. He's so abusive," Beebe told the station. "All she ever talked
about was him beating her. And being scared of him."Alyea vanished about midnight on Sept. 29.
That day, she'd spoken of getting back together with Hilt, her best
friend said. Beebe tried to talk her out of it, but said Hilt had
gotten Alyea addicted to drugs and she wouldn't listen to her.
Court documents show that Alyea was killed Sept. 30, hours after she disappeared.
District Attorney Steve Howe declined to discuss why or how the victim was killed at a Tuesday news conference.
The three suspects appeared in Johnson County Court Tuesday to face the charges; each is being held on $2 million bond.
Frentrop says that a tattoo of Hilt's name will be removed from Alyea's body before she is buried.

Re: KEIGHLEY ALYEA - 18 yo (2009)- Overland Park KS
The grandparents of slain teenager Keighley Alyea remembered happier times on Wednesday."She'd
call me about four times a day," said her grandfather, recalling the
days when she did not have her driver's license yet and would call him
to get around town. "No sooner did I get home, she'd be calling and
wanna go somewhere else."Those are the happy memories that the
grandfather said have helped to fill the hours since the 18-year-old's
body was found on Monday night in Cass County. The family said they had
been holding out hope every since she went missing more than a week ago."All
of the sudden, they did find her and things went really down hill,"
said her grandfather, Don Alyea. "And they found her dead."Johnson
County prosecutors have charged three men with her killing, but on
Wednesday they provided no new details about the case. The only new
information came from family members who said investigators told them
that Keighley regained consciousness somewhere along the way from
Overland Park to Cass County where the men were driving to allegedly
dump her body. The family said they were told she was killed along the
way.The victim's grandmother said seeing the faces of the men who were charged with the crime put a face to the family's pain."At this point -- I wouldn't wanna get a hold of them," said Margo Alyea.

A day after murder charges were filed against three men in the death
of 18-year-old Keighley Ann Alyea of Overland Park, her family provided
a grim detail.Alyea’s attackers thought they had killed the teen
Sept. 30 in Johnson County, according to what police told the family,
but she became conscious as they drove to dump her body in rural Cass
County.“They had a choice to do the right thing and they chose
to kill her,” said her uncle, Eddie Frentrop. “They could have just
dropped her off at the hospital on the steps.”At a vigil
Wednesday night, speakers acknowledged that Alyea was taken before her
time, but they asked the hundreds gathered at Westside Family Church in
Lenexa to remember her life instead of the tragic circumstances of her
death.
“This is not a typical (memorial) service. This is a
life taken out of season … by one who looked on a life and cast it away
carelessly,” said Jim Heaton, a pastor at Westside. “Somehow, if her
life touched you, hold her now in your mind and survey your chance to
become a different person.”After the lights were dimmed and
everyone stood and held their candles in the air, friends and family
were encouraged to exchange stories about Keighley. “She was the
nicest sweetest girl you could meet,” a tearful friend, Alex Hicks,
said after the service. “She could make you smile. She loved to dance.
She danced in the halls. She danced all the time.”Friend
Gabriela Byerley reminisced about how she and Alyea used to sneak out
of their houses and hang out at the park in the middle of the night. “She
had her sweet stage when she had a strong belief in God, and then she
went into a party stage when she met Dustin,” said Byerley. “She was
trying to get out of partying. She was straightening herself up, and
then this happens.”Byerley was referring to Dustin B. Hilt, 18, of Shawnee, one of three Johnson County residents charged in Alyea’s death.Johnson
County prosecutors declined to provide details on the case, including
the cause of death. On Tuesday, they filed first-degree murder,
aggravated kidnapping and aggravated robbery charges against Hilt;
Gerald S. Calbeck, 18, of Merriam; and Joseph D. Mattox, 21, of
Overland Park. After Alyea’s death, her body was missing until police found it Monday evening in Cass County.Margo
Alyea, the victim’s grandmother, said she and her husband largely
raised Alyea, paid most of her bills and saw her almost daily.During the time she was missing, Margo Alyea said, “I always hoped she would walk in the door.” She said she does not know why her granddaughter was killed.“She wouldn’t have gone down without a fight,” said Alyea of Prairie Village. “I’m just glad they found her.” Hilt and the victim had dated in the past and each had a tattoo of the other’s name. The family is having the Dustin tattoo taken off her body before burial, Alyea said, as her granddaughter had wanted. The father of one of the men charged said he had no details of the
crime and was grasping to understand how it could have happened.Derek Bohlken, father of Calbeck, said his son had never been in trouble and hardly knew Alyea. His son started hanging out with Hilt a few weeks ago, he said.“He’s into things like sports, and he goes running,” Bohlken said. For now, the father said, he is trying to learn more.

Re: KEIGHLEY ALYEA - 18 yo (2009)- Overland Park KS
A Johnson County jury has convicted a man of
first-degree murder in the death of his ex-girlfriend. Prosecutors in
Johnson County charged Dustin Hilt with beating and stabbing his
ex-girlfriend to death. Keighley Alyea was found dead in the trunk of a
car in October of 2009.
Hilt was also found guilty of aggravated kidnapping and aggravated
robbery. Alyea's body was found almost a week after she had gone
missing, beaten and stabbed.
Alyea's mother Kelley Bastel said justice was served and she came out of
the courtroom with a smile and a strong sense of relief.
"Definitely was a personal case, but Keighley got justice and that's
what we wanted today, to happen," Bastel said.
Her father, Pat Hayes, left the courthouse with family and friends at
his side. He praised Overland Park Police, and the District Attorney's
Office for their hard work. But he was reserved in his comments, as he
knows this is just the first of three trials he must sit through to get
justice for his daughter.
Two more defendants still need to stand trial for Alyea's murder. Scott
Calbeck and Joe Mattox go to trial later this year.
There was a slight glitch in the deliberations, which started Tuesday
afternoon and then continued until Wednesday morning.
When the jury arrived, one of the members was replaced with an alternate
and deliberations had to start over, but it took just three hours for
them to return the guilty verdicts.
Even though he was confident Hilt was guilty, the waiting was difficult.
"It was pins and needles clear up until the time the jury had a verdict
and once the verdict was read, our entire family was pleased that some
justice has been served," Hayes said.
Hilt is due back in court for sentencing on July 13.

Re: KEIGHLEY ALYEA - 18 yo (2009)- Overland Park KS
A Johnson County judge today sentenced a Shawnee teen to almost 69
years for the brutal kidnapping, robbery and murder of his
ex-girlfriend.Judge James Franklin Davis ruled the killing of
Keighley Ann Alyea, 18, of Overland Park, was so heinous it qualified
for the “hard 50” murder sentence.“This was torture, it was
cruel, it was senseless,” the judge told convicted killer Dustin Hilt,
18. “She was beaten,... she was choked, she was stabbed numerous
times...”He imposed 50 years without parole for the murder and
almost 19 more years for the kidnapping and robbery.A jury
convicted Hilt in April. The same charges are still pending against two
co-defendants, Gerald Calbeck of Merriam and Joseph Mattox of Overland
Park.Alyea was missing for almost a week after she was killed
Sept. 30. Her decomposing body was found in rural Cass County. She had
been stabbed 30 times, beaten repeatedly and choked.Hilt and
Mattox were seen within hours of the murder using blood-stained money to
buy cigarettes and soda, according to past testimony. Authorities
say the three men kidnapped Alyea in Johnson County, beat her
unconscious with a iron bar and threw her in the car trunk. She came to,
kicked, screamed for help and even tampered with the car’s tail lights
to try to save her life. When they got to the rural site, she
begged them to let her go and fought back with her hands and legs while
they finished killing her.Johnson County District Attorney Steve
Howe noted all that today when he argued that the case merited the hard
50 sentence instead of the normal 25 years without parole.“If
this is not heinous, atrocious and cruel, then what is?” Howe asked the
judge.Defense lawyer Paul Cramm asked the judge for mercy, noting
Hilt’s age and lack of a prior criminal record.Hilt’s friends
and family members testified that he had been a good student and athlete
before he became involved in an intense on-off, two-year relationship
with Alyea. They each went so far as to have a tattoo of the other’s
name. Kelley Bastel, Alyea’s mother, testified that she had
Dustin’s tattoo removed before she laid her daughter to rest.“You
were her first true love,” she told Hilt. When they were killing her

Man pleads guilty for role in murder of Alyea
A Merriam man pleaded guilty Thursday for his role in the kidnapping and murder of an Overland Park teenager.
Gerald Calbeck, 20, pleaded guilty to intentional second-degree murder, aggravated kidnapping and aggravated robbery related to the death of Keighley Ann Alyea, 18.
In exchange for Calbeck’s plea, prosecutors reduced the charge of first-degree murder that they had filed against him.
Authorities said the three men kidnapped Alyea in Johnson County on Sept. 30, 2009, beat her unconscious with an iron bar and threw her in her car trunk.

say the men, including Alyea’s ex-boyfriend and his cousin, Mattox,
kidnapped Alyea in Johnson County, beat her with a car jack handle and,
believing her to be dead, threw her body in the trunk of her car. Alyea
regained consciousness and began kicking and screaming. When she was
let out of the trunk, she begged for her life before being stabbed about
30 times in her head, neck, arms and torso. Authorities recovered her body days later in a Cass County field. Mattox’s
attorneys attempted to prove that he had no intent to kill Alyea, and
therefore could not be found guilty of premeditated first-degree murder.
They pointed to his statement to investigators, in which he told
them the plan was to knock Alyea unconscious, take her money and her
car, and leave her on the side of the road. Defense witnesses,
including Mattox’s grandmother and sister and a clinical psychologist,
testified that he did not have full mental capacity. Mattox’s family
said he had sustained several head injuries in his lifetime and was
known as “Crackhead Joe” because of his excessive use of drugs and
alcohol. But the prosecution said Mattox took control of the situation and showed leadership in a number of “decision points.” In
closing statements, Johnson County District Attorney Stephen Howe said
some of those moments including initiating the attack on Keighley with
the car jack handle, deciding to put the unconscious woman in the trunk
rather than on the side of the road, disposing of evidence and telling
the two other men later not to brag about the murder. “These were all efforts to indicate he clearly understood what he was doing and that what he was doing was wrong,” Howe said. Mattox’s sentencing is set for June 17. Dustin
Hilt, 18, of Shawnee was sentenced to 50 years without parole for the
murder and an additional 19 years for the kidnap and robbery.Gerald
“Scott” Calbeck, 19, of Merriam, pleaded guilty to a reduced sentence
of second-degree murder, aggravated kidnapping and aggravated robbery.
He is scheduled to be sentenced on May 4.
