JAIDEN WASHPUN - 3 months - Clearwater/Parker FL
A mother faces drug charges as police investigate the death of her baby, a 3-month-old child they say died in her motel room.
Carrie West, a 30-year-old house cleaner from Clearwater, was
arrested Wednesday at the La Brisa Inn, where Parker police said she
had drugs without a prescription.
Back home, her 15-year-old daughter Kayley was wondering what happened.
“All I know is she went up there with my dad,” Kayley said of West’s
trip to Panama City. “And then I got picked up from school and found
out my little brother passed away.”
Jaiden Washpun’s cause of death, as well as any history of medical
conditions, was unclear Thursday, said police Det. Aaron Wilson. The
medical examiner’s office was performing an autopsy.
Kayley said he was born premature but otherwise was healthy, and West cared for him deeply.
“She would never harm my brother… She would never hurt that baby,”
Kayley said. “I think whatever happened was a complete accident.”
When asked if the case appeared to involve neglect, Det. Wilson said, “It does to me.”
Asked if he planned on filing neglect charges, he said, “If she was neglectful, yes, I am.”
He expected the investigation to be long and involved. West
allegedly had 54 tablets of Oxycodone without a prescription and also
was charged with tampering with evidence for trying to destroy them.
Police say they suspect she had intended to sell them.
Meanwhile Thursday night, Kayley was staying with a friend while another younger brother was staying with his grandparents.
West was being held on $20,000 bond in the Bay County Jail, where
she declined a request for an interview. Her husband apparently was
free.
“I really don’t have anything to say to my dad, but my mother… At
first I was really, really, really mad at her, but I can’t imagine how
she’s feeling right now,” Kayley said.
“I know she wants to be home with me and my other little brother but she can’t because she’s stuck in jail.”

Kayley, I am sorry about your baby brother. I am sure this is very painful. I imagine this is under this topic because of being "exploited" or being treated unfairly. Exploit is a verb which means "to make use of meanly or unfairly".Any time a child is the the custody of someone that may have not cared for them as well as they could, or protect the baby, as they should have, or not put the baby's needs first, it is negligent care.Tom is posting this based on what is written in the news report. I am sure the truth will be told, and if this is not true your Mother will be back with you soon. You keep strong, and feel the love of your family and friends around you. And, I am very sorry about what you are going through.kayleyrenee01 wrote:This is Kayley Jaidens brother I noticed at the top it said missing exploited/murdered children. My brother wasnt murdered he had sids.

Re: JAIDEN WASHPUN - 3 months - Clearwater/Parker FL
I had thoughts about placing this topic in the "Resolved-Other" area. The latest development came about a few weeks ago.
The death of a 3-month-old baby in October 2009 has been ruled an
accident.
Dr. Michael Hunter, the medical examiner for Bay County, ruled
Jaiden Washpun died Oct. 7 of positional compressional asphyxia due to
sleeping with others. These accidental deaths are caused when sleeping
adults roll over on a baby or when a child asphyxiates on bedding.
The autopsy also stated the baby had no injuries or other maladies.
Parker police officers arrested Jaiden’s mother, Carrie West, at the
La Brisa Inn in October 2009. She was charged with possession of a
controlled substance and tampering with evidence. West allegedly had
more than 50 tablets of oxycodone without a prescription, pills she
tried to destroy during her arrest, officers wrote in an incident
report.
Last year, investigators said they also were pursuing child neglect
charges against the 31-year-old cleaning woman from Clearwater. West’s
trial for possession and tampering is scheduled for June 7, according to
courthouse records. She has not been charged with any crime in
connection to the baby’s death.
--- Kaylee. I am so sorry this has happened, whatever the circumstances, and I want to encourage you to talk about your feelings with your friends and the adults in your life that you know care so much about you. Hang Tough...
