"Angel Baby" - Teen Girl/Unidentified (1999) - Yuma AZ
Investigators are still trying to
identify the body of a teen girl found ten years ago. The girl was
discovered with a shotgun wound to the face near the Colorado River on
October 9, 1999. She was a white girl with brown curly hair and a
tattoo on her ankle that read "angel baby." No one has come forward to claim her. "The
unfinished angel baby tattoo looked like it was kind of a homemade
deal. It did not appear to be a professional tattoo so the family may
not even know about that," says Capt. Eben Bratcher with the Yuma
County Sheriff's Office. He was one of the first deputies on scene.
Bratcher says Angel Baby also had a surgical scar on her abadomen
because an ovary had been removed. Investigators have even tried to use genetic material to find out who she is. "We
have taken DNA samples. We have not gotten a match yet. We hope as
national DNA databases grow maybe some day we'll hit on a relative,"
says Bratcher. A database used by law enforcement catalogues DNA
profiles taken by criminals. There will only be a match if one of
Angel Baby's relatives winds up behind bars. To this day a tattoo, a scar, and a DNA profile have not helped investigators name this Jane Doe. "No
one has yet positively said this was my daughter. We know she was
someone's daughter. We just don't know where she was from or who she
was." To learn more about Angel Baby, log on to the website for the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (www.missingkids.com)
