An Amity man has admitted to charges he had sexual contact with an underage girl.

Anthony Cancel, 48, of the first block of Valley View, pleaded guilty in
Montgomery County Court to felony charges of involuntary deviate sexual
intercourse and aggravated indecent assault of a child less than 16
years of age in connection with incidents that occurred between 2003
and 2007.

Cancel faces a possible maximum sentence of 10 to 20 years in prison on the charges when he's sentenced later this year.

Judge Thomas C. Branca deferred sentencing so that court officials can
complete a background investigative report about Cancel, which he will
use in his sentencing.

Cancel, who is represented by defense
lawyer William English, also must undergo an evaluation by the
Pennsylvania Sexual Offender Assessment Board, which will determine if
he meets criteria under the state's Megan's Law to be declared a
sexually violent predator.

Assistant District Attorney Stephen Geday is seeking jail time against Cancel.

Other charges of statutory sexual assault, endangering the welfare of a child
and unlawful contact with a minor are slated to be dismissed at time of
sentencing.

Cancel was arrested by New Hanover Police on May 18 with the assistance of officers from North Coventry.

According to a criminal complaint, Cancel began the deviant relationship with the
underage girl in 2003 when the girl was just 13 years old and continued
the relationship until 2007, when he was deployed with the Air National
Guard to the Middle East.

Cancel allegedly had sexual contact
with the girl and on several occasions allegedly showed the girl
pornography on a computer and on video while they engaged in sex acts
at a residence in New Hanover, according to the criminal complaint.

Cancel continued to have contact with the girl after he was deployed to the
Middle East through cards and text messages, telling the girl that he
missed her and was looking forward to coming home to be with her,
according tothe criminal complaint.

Police were notified about the incidents in April after the girl's mother found messages Cancel allegedly sent to the girl.

The girl's mother confronted Cancel when he returned home from his
deployment and Cancel allegedly admitted to having sex with the girl,
but said it happened just once, the criminal complaint indicated.
