Syndrome.
Fifty-two-year-old Gail Dobson is charged with manslaughter
and child abuse resulting in death. Dobson was arrested Wednesday night. The
District of Columbia Medical Examiner's office said 9-month-old Trevor
Ulrich died last month from inflicted head trauma, which is consistent
with Shaken Baby Syndrome. Paramedics found the child in cardiac arrest
at Dobson's day-care center in Trappe on Sept. 2. The boy died the next
day at Children's Hospital in Washington. State police say the child had been in Dobson's care for two days.

Former Day Care Provider Sentenced

EASTON, Md.- A former day care provider from Trappe was sentenced Thursday for the death of a 9 month old boy from Hurlock.

Gail Dobson was sentenced in Talbot County Circuit Court. She received 30 years for second-degree murder and 30 years for first-degree child abuse. Each sentence also carried a 10 year suspended sentence, which means Dobson will spend 20 years behind bars.

Nine month old Trevor Ulrich was in Dobson's care at her home in Trappe in September 2009. Dobson testified that she never hurt Trevor and that he apparently began choking on his own vomit and stopped breathing. She began CPR on Trevor before medical personnel arrived. The 9 month old died the next day.

The state argued that Dobson injured Trevor. A medical examiner ruled that the cause of death was trauma to the head.

Dobson was convicted in August of second-degree murder, first-degree child abuse and second-degree assault. The second degree assault was merged with the other convictions during the sentencing.

"It's never going to be enough. It's never going to be enough to justify what was done to Trevor. You know even if it was a life sentence it's never going to bring Trevor back," said Holly Dickerson, a friend of Trevor's mother, Kelly Ulrich.

A woman who lives next door to Gail Dobson was inside the courtroom during sentencing. She said she never thought something like this would happen to her neighbor, and that Dobson was a good person.
