BRIGETTE KENNEMORE - 18 yo /Developmentally disabled - Newhall CA

Eighteen-year-old Brigette Kennemore was last seen walking on Hasley Canyon Road after she got off a bus about 4:20 p.m. Monday.
Deputies say Kennemore is developmentally disabled.

Crews have searched with dogs and all-terrain vehicles, but they have not been able to find her. Kennemore has blond hair and is about 5 foot 6 inches tall and weighs 160 pounds.

Sheriff's Search and Rescue units continued
to search Saturday in a wash near Live Oak Road in Castaic for a
missing 18-year-old Valencia High School student.

Santa
Clarita Valley Sheriff's Lt. Robert Lewis said scent dogs picked up a
possible scent from Brigett Andrea Kennemore, a developmentally
disabled Newhall resident who hasn't been seen since she got off a
public bus on Monday.

"Our dogs picked up a scent of her
(Friday); I believe she lives in close proximity to there," said Lt.
Robert Lewis. Lewis added that Kennemore's boyfriend lives within a
mile of the search area.

However, Lewis said the scent could be from a family member who has been searching for Kennemore in that area.

"We don't know if family members were looking there as well," said Lt. Robert Lewis.

Lewis said detectives have been actively searching for Kennemore since Monday.

"The only place we haven't been able to search was the wash basin area adjacent to Live Oak Road," he said.

Search and Rescue teams on foot and quad runners scoured the wash basin Friday and Saturday without the help of scent dogs,

Lewis said. A helicopter unit also assisted with the search.

"It's basically a dust bowl and dogs can't sniff in a dust bowl," he said.

Search and Rescue units stopped their search about 5 p.m. after finding nothing in the wash, said Sgt. Tom Jensen.

Kennemore was last seen walking on Hasley Canyon Road about 4:20 p.m. Monday.

Kennemore
is described as 5 feet 6 inches tall and 160 pounds with blonde hair
and hazel eyes. She was carrying a black and blue purse.

Detectives
have advised local residents with information about Kennemore's
location to immediately contact Detective T. Abraham or Detective Diane

It has been one week since the family of Brigett Kennemore last
heard from her. The 18 year-old Valencia High School student went
missing last Monday after exiting a bus near Hasley Canyon Rd. and
Cambridge Ave in Castaic.
Her family believes that Brigett exited the bus in an area she is unfamiliar with after a break up with her boyfriend.While Kennemore is of consenting age, her family says that she is disabled and cannot make rational decisions on her own.
Over the weekend Los Angeles County Sheriff's teams used scent dogs,
a helicopter and ATVs to search the area where Kennemore was last seen.
In an email, her family told KHTS that the dogs were initially able to
pick up her scent, although it was lost near a wash off Hasely Canyon
Rd. The resulting search of the outlying area provided no viable new
leads.

Although in this case no news may also be interpreted as good
news, since there was no evidence found that led investigators to
believe Kennemore was hurt.
For now the family has little to go on, with the exception of a few friends who may or may not have heard from Brigett.

A badly decomposed body was found behind a strip mall under
construction in Santa Clarita Monday, and detectives were trying to
determine if the remains were those of a missing 18-year-old Newhall
woman.

A gardener discovered the body shortly after 1 p.m. outside the
mall, located along the southbound Golden State (5) Freeway at the ramp
to Henry Mayo Drive, Deputy Lillian Peck said.

A law enforcement official said it's possible the body belongs to an
18-year-old woman reported missing on Oct. 26. Investigators said they
won't contact Kennemore's family until Coroner's officials can
positively identify the body.

The Newhall resident was last seen at 4:20 p.m. Oct. 26 walking
eastbound on Hasley Canyon Road, according to deputies at the Santa
Clarita Valley sheriff's station.

a Santa Clarita Transit bus just east of Cambridge Avenue, deputies said.

in Santa Clarita might be that of a missing teen, according to
authorities.

The body was discovered just after 1p.m. Monday near the southbound Golden State (5) Freeway at the ramp to Henry Mayo Drive.

The remains are believed to be that of a young woman. A sheriff's
official said Monday night that the death was believed to be a suicide.

No identification has been made.

Law enforcement officials are looking into whether the body is that of

Family members say she may have broken up with her boyfriend during the bus ride.

The Los Angeles County Department of Coroner is expected to make the
final determination of the woman's body and what caused her death.

Coroner's officials have confirmed that the body of the young woman
found hanged on Monday afternoon near the junction of the I-5 and
Highway 126 is that of Bridgett Andrea Kennemore, a Newhall teen who
had been missing since October 26.
Both homicide and coroner's investigators agree that Kennemore
committed suicide, but an exact date cannot be determined without
extensive further investigation, explained Brian Elias, a spokesman for
the Coroner's office.
Kennemore, 18, was a student at Valencia High School and had last
been seen getting off a bus in Castaic. She allegedly had a fight with
a boyfriend before leaving the bus.

Coroner's officials have identified a body
found this week near Interstate 5 as missing 18-year-old Valencia High
School student Brigett Andrea Kennemore, and said she committed suicide
by hanging.

The teenage Newhall resident was found Monday amid a
cluster of trees off of the I-5 near Highway 126, said Los Angeles
County sheriff's Detective Wayne Holston of the Homicide Bureau.

She had used a bungee cord to hang herself from a tree branch, Holston said.

Coroner's
officials confirmed Friday the cause of death was hanging, and
detectives found no signs of foul play in her death, Holston said.

Kennemore
had been missing since Oct. 26 when she was last seen getting off a bus
in Castaic. Relatives said she was developmentally disabled and had
recently broken up with her boyfriend.
