The 7-month-old baby believed to be in a stolen vehicle this afternoon was found safe and unharmed this evening.

One
parent suspect is in custody after the baby was found, and the vehicle
that had been reported stolen was found on Flint's northside.

Sgt.
Ken Engle stressed the importance of the Amber Alert system in light of
this incident because it gets "the entire community looking for
someone."

"We want the public to respond to the Amber Alert," he said.

No further information is available at this time.

A Flint father says he filed a false police
report that led to an Amber Alert because he thought it would
prompt a quicker response to his stolen car.

Police say the man reported that his 7-month-old son was inside
the vehicle when it was stolen Monday afternoon from a high school
parking lot in Flint, about 55 miles northwest of Detroit.

Authorities immediately issued an Amber Alert.

Surveillance video from the school later revealed that the boy
and the car were never at the school. The child was found safe
inside an apartment in Burton, in the care of relatives.

The man tells WNEM-TV that he takes responsibility for not
getting the situation under control.

No charges have been filed.

An investigation by police and Child Protective Services is
ongoing.

The
man who called to say his 7-month-old son was taken in a stolen vehicle
changed his story before the baby was found safe at home last night,
according to police reports.

The Genesee
County Prosecutor's office has authorized a warrant for one count of
filing a false report of a felony, a four-year felony.

An
Amber Alert was issued last night when the father claimed his son,
Trustin McClain, was taken in a stolen vehicle when he went inside of
McKinley Academy to pick up other children.

The
baby was later found safe in their Burton home, and the vehicle was
found on the northside of Flint, said police. The father was arrested
last night and released pending further investigation, according to
police reports.
