A Brooklawn woman pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter yesterday in the 2006 killing of an infant, authorities said.Gloria Carter, 37, faces up to 23 years in prison.Carter appeared before Superior Court Judge Samuel Natal in Camden,
where she admitted she sliced through the abdomen of her ex-boyfriend's
child, 3-week-old Sean Colvin, on Nov. 18, 2006, and then threw the
baby down a flight of stairs.Carter was at the home of the child's father, Edward Colvin, on Chestnut Street in Brooklawn. Carter was not the mother.Colvin and Carter had a previous relationship but were estranged, and
Colvin had a restraining order to keep her away from his home,
according to a state report completed after the death.The report said that when Carter arrived at Colvin's home, he let her
stay there because he was concerned about her mental health.Colvin told authorities he heard Sean crying on Nov. 18 and found the
child stabbed in the abdomen, with Carter standing next to the crib.Colvin snatched the child and attempted to flee, but after a struggle, Carter threw the child down the stairs, authorities said.Police arrived shortly after 9 a.m., and the boy was rushed to the hospital and placed on life support. He died the next day.The judge scheduled sentencing for Jan. 22.
