idling car in a South Carolina post office parking lot was found safe
early Wednesday and a woman was in custody in his kidnapping, police
said.
Investigators tracked down the 1-month-old infant, Angel Miguel Perez, at a home in
Summerville at about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, North Charleston police
spokesman Spencer Pryor said in a statement.
A 19-year-old woman was arrested and charged with kidnapping, Pryor said. Her name wasn't released.
North Charleston and Summerville officers were acting on a tip when they went to the house where the child was found, he said.
The boy was taken to the Medical University of South Carolina hospital in
Charleston for an evaluation and then was reunited with his parents.
The baby's mother, Lidia Juarez, said she stopped at a North Charleston
post office on Monday afternoon and left the infant in the car with its
engine running while she went inside to buy stamps.
Juarez told police she was in the post office less than five minutes. When she came back to her car, she said, her son was gone.
State officials issued an Amber Alert for the child late Monday and local,
state and federal authorities asked for public help in the search
Tuesday.
The FBI was offering a $20,000 reward for information that leads to the conviction of the
kidnapper and set up an e-mail address and a bank of five phone numbers
to encourage anyone with information to contact them.
It wasn't known whether the tipster will be able to collect the reward
money. Police planned a news conference late Wednesday morning.

Re: ANGEL MIGUEL PEREZ - 1 month - North Charleston SC
Police have arrested Andrea Simone Walker, 19, from Goose Creek for the kidnapping of 1-month-old Angel Miguel Perez.
Perez was taken from a car at the Rivers Avenue Post Office on
Monday afternoon while his mother was inside running an errand. His
abduction resulted in an amber alert spanning 2 days.
Police think Walker followed mother and child and saw an opportunity
at the Post Office to abduct the child. Police went to the Grove
Apartment Complex where they found the infant in an apartment with
Walker and several other people. Those people are not facing charges.
The arrest and recovery came thanks to citizen phone tips.
Perez and his parents were re-united around 12:30 am Wednesday and
Walker was taken into custody. A bond hearing for Walker is expected
at 2pm.

Re: ANGEL MIGUEL PEREZ - 1 month - North Charleston SC
Law enforcement officials from the local, state and federal level,
as well as North Charleston Mayor Keith Summey were elated to announce
the safe return of baby Angel Miguel Perez to his mother and father at
a press conference Wednesday morning.
Spencer Pryor, spokesman for the North Charleston Police, said two
phone tips helped identify the suspect as Andrea Samone Walker, 19, as
well as the location of both the suspect and the 1-month-old baby.
The tips led police to the Grove Apartments in Summerville where the baby was secured and Walker was arrested without incident.
Police believe Walker followed Perez' mother, Lidia Perez, and when
the opportunity presented itself to kidnap the child, she did.
In an early morning release, police said the baby was safe but would
be transported to the Medical University for an exam to make sure he
was in perfect health. At MUSC, mother, father and son were reunited.
Angel was snatched out of his mother's car in a North Charleston
post office parking lot. The boy's mother told police she left her son
in a running car while she went inside to drop off mail. When she
returned, the child was gone.
Witnesses told police they saw a black woman running from the post
office parking lot with a baby in her arms. They described the suspect
as a short, stocky black woman wearing a blue and white striped shirt
and boots.
By Monday night, police released a description of the suspect's car, a gray or charcoal Honda Civic with a rear spoiler.

Re: ANGEL MIGUEL PEREZ - 1 month - North Charleston SC
North Charleston police and the
Solicitors Office announced Wednesday that no criminal charges will be
brought against Lidia Juarez for leaving her infant unattended at the
time he was kidnapped.
1-month-old Angel Perez was in his car seat at the Rivers Ave Post
Office in North Charleston when according to police 19-year-old Andrea
Samone Walker of Goose Creek took the child.
The abduction set off a 2-day amber alert resulting in the reunion of child and family the day before Thanksgiving.
Officials say Juarez acted irresponsibly by leaving her baby for a
few minutes in a running car but the lack of supervision did not rise
to the level of neglect which would break the law.
