A seventh-grader missing from her Dunnellon home since Wednesday was
found and returned to her parents Thursday by sheriff's deputies, who
arrested a 22-year-old man in connection with her disappearance.
Haley Chamblin, 12, was found about 1:30 p.m. at the McDonald's located at U.S. 441 and Northwest 35th Street in Ocala.Chad D. Cordrey was found not far away, in the 4700 block of Northeast 20th Avenue.He now faces several charges, including interference with child custody.Deputies were able to find the two after receiving an anonymous tip.The
girl's family members - many of them frantic, worried and crying - had
printed and distributed a number of fliers and were searching and
calling everyone they knew to try and find the youngster.When word finally came that Haley was safe, they were relieved and overjoyed.On Wednesday, Haley was sick and stayed home from school. She was alone at her family's home on Southwest 168th Circle.Her mother called from work to check on her daughter.When she got no response, she called her husband, who left work and went home to check on the girl.When he didn't find her there, he called one of the girl's grandparents to see if she was visiting.Ater being told no, he called the Sheriff's Office.Deputies
checked the girl's room and found some telephone numbers.
After placing
some calls, they found out she was in the company of Cordrey.The
young man has a lengthy criminal record that includes arrests for
cocaine and marijuana possession, leaving the scene of an accident and
making a false report of a crime.He had been released from the
Marion County Jail on Tuesday at 9:48 a.m. after posting $500 bail. He
had been arrested on possession of marijuana less than 20 grams.Cordrey
told officials that about a month ago, the girl reportedly was texting
a friend and instead sent a text message to his mother's phone.He intercepted the message and replied to her text.He claimed they then began talking.Cordrey told detectives he picked up Haley not far from her residence Wednesday, and they left.He was then arrested and transported back to the jail.
