DANIELLA VITALE - 23 months - Sunrise FL
The teenager accused of beating his girlfriend's toddler nearly to
death is out of jail. Joshua Albarracin, 18, posted bond on Friday.
Prosecutors say Albarracin, a senior at Piper High School, was
babysitting his girlfriend's 3-year-old son and 23-month-old daughter
Monday night.
When the young girl wouldn't stop crying, prosecutors say, Albarracin
threw her onto a couch and kneed her in the stomach several times with
all of his weight. After little Daniella Vitale stopped crying, they
say he put her injured body unattended in bed for more than an hour.
Sunrise Police say Albarracin confessed to the crime.
What little Daniella looks like in the hospital, and happier days preceding
Daniella suffered a ruptured liver and bowel and underwent surgery at
Broward General Medical Center. She remains in a medically induced
coma.
The girl's mother, Danielle Vitale, can't be around her daughter unless
she has DCF supervision. The court ordered the DCF supervision while it
checks a previous injury to the little girl. In that case in September
2009, Vitale says Albarracin told her he tripped over a baby gate,
sending the child falling out of his arms and down the stairs. "When
this happened," Vitale recalls, "I thought, 'Wow, she fell down the
stairs.' Now I don't believe it! I don't know what happened."
Vitale says paramedics told her the little girl was fine - but she
wanted her checked out at the hospital anyway. "They told me she had
fractured her skull, it's nothing they could do anything about, it
heals by itself," she recalls the doctor saying. "We took her to the
neurologist everything was ok. [We] did the cat scan in 8 weeks,
everything came back fine."
It wasn't until Wednesday's hearing that Vitale learned of conflicting
reports. In the paramedic report, it says "Albarracin" tripped with the
child. The hospital report says "Vitale" tripped with the child --the
result -- investigators want a closer look. Vitale figures someone made
a mistake on the report.
Meanwhile, she says there were no warnings from police, DCF or doctors of any trouble and no other red flags.
"After she fell down the stairs, she still went to him, she wasn't
scared of him. It didn't make sense, I had no reason to believe that
that was anything other than her falling down the stairs," she said.
Vitale, her father, boyfriend and the two kids all lived together in
the apartment before Albarracin was arrested. Vitale has since moved in
with a friend and her father, Joseph Vitale, Daniella's grandfather,
has taken custody of Danielle and her 3-year-old brother.

Re: DANIELLA VITALE - 23 months - Sunrise FL
The 23-month-old girl allegedly beaten nearly to death by her mother's
teenaged boyfriend has reportedly woken up from a medically-induced
coma and is breathing on her own.
Little Daniella Vitale's grandfather told the media
that Daniella woke up Thursday and pulled the ventilation tube out on
her own. It's unknown whether the tube will be replaced, but the
grandfather says the girl is breathing well.
