An 11th grade girl dropped off at her high school in Temecula Thursday
did not show up for class and was reported missing, a school official
said.

The girl was dropped off in front of Chaparral High School
at 6 a.m. and spoke with her mother on a cell phone a short time later
but never went to class, said Superintendent Carol Leighty of the
Temecula Valley Unified School District.

Her backpack was later found on campus, said district spokeswoman Melanie Norton.

Temecula
police are treating the disappearance as a missing child case, as there
is no evidence the girl was abducted, Leighty said.

School officials did not release the name of the student.

A
missing Chaparral High School student was found in Riverside late
Thursday and has been returned to her family, according to the
Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
Saaimoana Migae, 16, was found by UC Riverside Police about 9 p.m., said Sgt. Dennis Gutierrez. No other details were available.
The teen has been reunited with her family and she was not injured and no indication of foul play involved, Gutierrez said.
This investigation is continuing and anyone with information related
to this investigation is asked to contact Investigator Gorlicki at the
Temecula Police Department at 951-445-7527.
School officials said the Chapparral High School student had been
dropped off at the high school at about 6 a.m. Thursday by her mother.
Saaimoana was scheduled to attend an early class at the school. Some of
Saaimoana’s personal belongings were found on campus and were turned
into the office.
