DeCARLOS LEWIS - 3 Months (2010) - North Versailles PA

The male caller to the North Versailles Police Department Sunday
evening was hard to understand. But the words of the woman screaming in
the background were unmistakable.

"Why did you do this to my baby?" she cried repeatedly. The woman
then got on the telephone and told police, "He killed my baby!"

Allegheny County police Tuesday charged Michael Lewis, 54, of North
Versailles, with homicide, endangering the welfare of a child, and
resisting arrest in the death of his 3-month-old son.

Homicide Detective Michael Garlicki said North Versailles police
received the emergency call just before 7 p.m. Sunday, but all they
could make out was a male caller saying something about having taken a
lot of pills.

But once the woman, Heather Cutruzzola, 26, got on the line and told
them about her child, officers were en route to her apartment on Hyer
Avenue. When they arrived, Ms. Cutruzzola ushered them inside, where
they found the child, DeCarlos Lewis, unresponsive on the floor just
inside the doorway and Michael Lewis seated on a nearby sofa.

Detective Garlicki said that while one of the officers performed CPR
on the infant, another officer approached Mr. Lewis, who grabbed at
him. A struggle with that officer and another who jumped in ended with
Mr. Lewis being handcuffed and placed into a patrol car, police said.

Medics transported the baby to UPMC McKeesport, where he was pronounced dead at 7:41 p.m.

Ms. Cutruzzola told police that she had been seeing Mr. Lewis, the
biological father of the child, for more than six years. They had
started living together four months ago, she told police, despite the
fact that he was occasionally abusive to her.

According to the arrest affidavit, Ms. Cutruzzola said she went to
the store Sunday evening, leaving the child asleep in his crib with Mr.
Lewis watching him. When she returned, she said, Mr. Lewis was acting
strangely. She found her child unresponsive in the crib and then saw
Mr. Lewis on the phone calling for help.

The Allegheny County medical examiner's office determined Monday that the child died of blunt force trauma to the head.

Mr. Lewis was charged Tuesday after being treated at UPMC McKeesport for an overdose of pills.

A North Versailles man on Friday was ordered to trial on
charges that he beat to death his infant son last month.

However, some of the related charges against Michael
Lewis, 54, were dismissed by District Judge David Barton, or withdrawn by the
prosecution.

He now faces one count of homicide.

The suspect called 911 on the evening of Feb. 7 while
the 3-month-old baby's mother, Heather Cutruzzolla, had been on an errand.

Ms. Cutruzzolla, 26, returned home while Mr. Lewis was
on the phone and found her son, DeCarlos Lewis, unresponsive in his crib.

At a preliminary hearing yesterday, an advocate from the
Allegheny County Office of Children, Youth and Families testified she
interviewed Mr. Lewis this month at the county jail, and he told her he struck
the baby twice on the back of the head.

Assistant District Attorney Lisa Pellegrini argued after
the hearing that the admission by Mr. Lewis is inconsistent with the number of
injuries discovered during an autopsy on the child.

Assistant Public Defender Robert Foreman successfully
argued against charges of child endangerment, resisting arrest and aggravated
assault against a police officer.

North Versailles police Officer Thomas Nee testified
yesterday that he had been assaulted, though not injured, by Mr. Lewis during
his arrest at the scene.

When Mr. Lewis summoned police, he reported that he had
taken a lot of pills, including Ambien, Flexoral and Neurontin.

The suspect was taken to UPMC McKeesport, where he was
treated for the drug overdose.

The baby also was taken to UPMC McKeesport, where he was
pronounced dead at 7:41 p.m. that day. The medical examiner determined that the
child died of blunt force trauma of the head.

If you think you know so much about a baby that died then, why is that you have no idea that his mother was stealing handfuls of vicodin at least 10 pills at a time? Why is it that you don't know that the baby came out addicted to drugs? Why is it that you think you know so f***ing much and you don't know s**t. You only hear what the f***ing press tells you, but you never get the full truth of what really happens and goes on. You know so damn much, did you know his mother did more damage to him then anyone could have ever. I watched this bitch down 10 pills a day, I watched him smack the pills out of her hand when he would catch her. I watch her go into his the trunk of his car and come back with his keys to the little black box that he locked up so she couldn't take them anymore. I've watched him call CYF on her and tell them that she's on pills and that the baby needs to be taken from her when he's born cause he going to be addicted. I WATCH MY FATHER DO THAT. So the next time that you wanna try and crusify someone for doing something, get the full ***ing facts of the story and then try and trash them. Yes I am Michaels daughter. I don't consider that baby my brother, that baby has caused more harm in my family then anything. My father is dead now, DO YOU HEAR ME F***ING DEAD NOW because of that baby and his mother. My father died in jail of a heart attack waiting to go to trial behind this s**t. oh brother..he we go. #1 he admitted to hitting the baby; not once, but twice. #2 he helped make this baby, not just the uterus and the baby did not deserve to die.

First and foremost, you cannot sue for slander. We are entitled to voice our opinions in a forum such as this, It's called Free Speech. Ever hear of that?
You are writing from a position of bias toward your late father.
The key statement you made was when you said, " I don't consider that baby my brother, that baby has caused more harm in my family then anything.".
Babies at 3 Months of age cannot be held responsible for any "trouble" they may cause. They are not capable of anything but requiring nurturing and protection.
Despite your protestations and wild charges against the mother and her alleged pill popping let me ask you this:
Who was hospitalized for a drug overdose after the incident?
Believe what you wish but please get some counseling regarding your feelings. Your Dad was not as "lily white" as you claim. Look at the evidence. Both he and the "Baby Mama" may have been two peas in a pod when it came to abuse of pharmaceuticals but there was and is no question who is responsible for the death of your half-brother.
P.S. If you don't clean up your writing and stop spouting foul language (which I redacted) you will find that your Freedom of Speech on this site will be terminated faster than swallowing a pill!
