Casey Anthony’s defense team has filed a motion criticizing the prosecution’s request for a closed-door meeting with Judge Stan Strickland, WESH-Channel 2 reported this afternoon.
The state doesn’t want Anthony or her attorneys at the meeting and hasn’t disclosed the subject to be discussed. Anthony is charged with first-degree murder in the death of her daughter, Caylee. Anthony defense attorney Jose Baez responded to the prosecution’s request in a motion today.
“Baez says there is no explanation for this highly unusual request,” WESH anchor Jim Payne said. “He also pointed out that two defense requests for similar closed-door hearings were turned down.”
WFTV-Channel 9 focused on Texas EquuSearch’s response to another defense motion. The defense wants to see the group’s paperwork the search for the toddler.
Mark NeJame, the attorney for Texas EquuSearch, called the defense’s motion “a waste of time,” anchor Bob Opsahl said.
The defense argues that Texas EquuSearch let the media see the documents and thus so should Anthony’s attorneys. But NeJame said that claim is “inappropriate and inaccurate,” Opsahl said. “He said Texas EquuSearch hasn’t released the name of volunteers or search information that was not previously shared with the defense.”
