"Baby John" KELLY - 13 Weeks - Farmington MI

A 17-year-old high school student accused of
abusing his infant son will be back in court next
month for a preliminary examination, court
officials said today.

John Kelly of Farmington Hills is charged with
torture and child abuse after authorities say he
broke several of his infant son's bones. Kelly
attends Farmington Public Schools.

At a pre-exam conference today before 47th
District Judge James Brady, Kelly’s preliminary
exam date was set as March 3.
Kelly could face up to life in prison if convicted.
Police and prosecutors have said that Kelly’s son
had 20 broken bones and was abused on at least
two occasions.
Authorities were called to Botsford Hospital on
Jan. 22, after the baby — 13 weeks old at the
time — was brought in for treatment by his
mother, a 17-year-old high school student. The
mother, whom police did not name, is not facing
charges. Kelly and the boy's mother do not live
together.
