BOBBY MARTINEZ - 14 yo (charged with rape of 10 yo) - Belle Glade FL

A 14-year-old raped a 10-year-old girl walking to school in Belle Glade,
and tried to sexually assault an adult woman, authorities said today.

Palm Beach County Sheriff's deputies arrested Bobby Martinez, also of
Belle Glade, on Feb. 24 at Crossroads Academy, according to a report.


Martinez is charged as an adult with sexual assault by a person under 18
on a victim under 12 as well as kidnapping, both felonies.

In court this morning, Palm Beach County Circuit Judge Krista Marx
ordered him held without bail.

With the alleged victim's relatives in court, Assistant State Attorney
Kevin F. Moot said the high bond is justified "based on the very violent and
serious nature of the crime."

Martinez is separately charged as a juvenile with one misdemeanor count
of simple battery in the second attack, the sheriff's office said.

The 10-year-old told deputies she was attacked at about 7:45 a.m. on
Feb. 22 .

The girl said a teen grabbed her neck and forced her into an abandoned
home.

He said if she said anything to anyone, he'd have his brother shoot her.
The girl said he then raped her.

She said he then dressed and left. She said she ran home and told her
mother .

A little after 8 a.m., the principal later told deputies, he noticed the
teenager arriving for class with his white-collared shirt dirty with
debris. He said he found that unusual.

Martinez denied being involved but agreed to give a DNA sample, the
report
said.

Meanwhile, a 26-year-old woman had told deputies Feb. 9 she was on her
way to pick up her daughter at school when someone grabbed her from behind
around the neck, knocked her down, and tried to sexually assault her, then
fled.

She contacted deputies again the day after the alleged rape to say the
two might be connected.

Both the woman and the 10-year-old have identified Martinez through a
photo lineup.

After picking out her attacker, the report said, the 10-year-old
snatched a piece of paper and covered his photograph.

Wow Tom, this is terrible. So young to start offending so seriously. I'm going to keep a close eye on this case. Even if he is convicted I can imagine him out in public again by the time he's 20.

Like you, I was astounded at this bold and brazen act by one so young, upon someone even younger. His possible connection to the other "attempt" is what jumped out at me, so to speak. Almost as though, if true, that he was on some sort of mission and would go after almost anyone.
Here in the US, the Prosecution now can "upgrade" the youthful offender status to that of an adult. That's how he will be tried, as though he had been an adult who did this. I would hope that the sentence will be much longer, as a result. I also feel he needs deep psychological counseling and rehabilitation.

Thanks Tom. It's good to know he will be away for a long while if convicted. I agree he needs a lot of psychological evaluations and treatment. I hope he gets it. If your system is anything like ours he probably wont though. Over here unless they go into the mental health system having been judged insane they are just another prisoner unfortunately.
