Sand Springs OK ---- Police are searching for a 14-year-old girl who went missing late Friday after visiting a skating rink, authorities said Sunday.


Sgt. Kyle Alexander said officers are investigating Ariel Dawn Willie’s whereabouts. Ariel is an 8th grader at Clyde Boyd Middle School in Sand Springs.

April Shepard, Ariel’s mother, said she hasn’t been in contact with her daughter since Friday evening. Shepard said Ariel sent her a text message Friday morning asking for permission to spend the weekend with a friend.

However, her mother said she later found out Ariel apparently went to a Sand Springs rink called Skates with another friend.

Shepard said when the friend’s parents came to pick the girls up, Ariel said her mother was on her way to pick her up. Shepard said it’s possible Ariel left the skating rink with a 16-year-old boy around 11 p.m.

Shepard said she doesn’t believe her daughter has run away from home. She said she last communicated with Ariel via text message at 6 p.m. Friday.

Shepard said she began to wonder about Ariel’s whereabouts when she didn’t respond to multiple text messages Saturday morning.

A girl who went missing during the weekend had apparently run away from home and has been found, police said.

The search for Ariel Dawn Willie, 14, was closed Monday morning after her parents brought her to the police station, Assistant Police Chief Mike Carter said.

Ariel had last contacted her family Friday evening by text message. She asked to spend the weekend with a friend but likely went to a skating rink instead, her mother said.

The girl's family contacted authorities after she didn't respond to several text messages Saturday morning.
