CHRISTIAN SIMPKINS - 4 yo (2010) - Prince William VA

Prince William VA ---- Investigators are still trying to
determine how a 4-year-old boy died Wednesday night.
Police were called to the home of Christian Simpkins, who was found
unconscious in a bathtub in his family's Woodbridge condominium just off
Prince William Parkway.
The child was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
"The investigation is still ongoing as we await the autopsy lab results
from the state medical examiner's office," Prince William police 1st
Sgt. Kim Chinn said Friday.
Those results could take weeks. Investigators plan to again interview
family members in an attempt to shed light on how the child died.
No charges have been filed in this case.
Initial reports from the scene Wednesday night indicated the child
suffered from cardiac arrest.
According to Virginia law, when the autopsy is completed, the medical
examiner's office must submit a copy of the report to the investigating
agency and to the child's parents.

When she came back into the bathroom, she found Christian Simpkins not breathing and called 911, according to a search warrant affidavit filed at the Prince William County courthouse.



Christian was taken to a local hospital about 10:30 p.m. April 1 and pronounced dead.

Mary Simpkins and her husband Robert are being investigated for possible felony child neglect, court documents state. No one has been charged and police said they do not yet know if any crime was committed.

It is still unclear how long the boy was left unattended.

Police seized towels, wash cloths, a medicine syringe and spoon, multiple computers and a stained cotton swab found on the dining room floor of the home. The couple also handed over their cell phones, which investigators will use to check phone records, text messages, stored photos and contacts that could help the investigation, according to the affidavit.

The couple has cooperated in each phase of the investigation, police said.
