Police: Book With Missing Girl Involved Aspiring Explorer

Posted:

SPRINGS, Fla. --
Once daylight broke, search teams began a

third full day of searching for a missing 11-year old autistic girl
in
Winter Springs.NADIA BLOOM - 11 yo - Winter Springs FL - Page 2 VideoPRESS BRIEFING:
Police Chief Updates SearchPolice told
Eyewitness News they are not giving up hope that they will find
Nadia Bloom okay. The search for her has been going on since Friday
afternoon when Nadia disappeared from theBarrington Estates
neighborhood. (seemap)As the third full day of searching got underway,
would-be rescuers are working with a new theory of what happened to
Nadia. Police believe it is possible thatgirl may actually be trying to
survive in the woods by herself. There were initial reports that
Nadia had a book with her that may have been some sort of a survival
guide, and that she may have been using that information to try to
survive in nature. However, investigators have since learned that it was
not a survivalbook, but instead a storybook entitled "Lanie," about a
young girl named Lanie Holland who "dreams of becoming an expert
scientist and explore deep jungles" (moreabout Lanie
character)
.During a press briefing Monday morning,
Winter Springs Police Chief Kevin Butler indicated that the
search efforts were far from over.“I have a lot of experts out
there whoare helping me get through this. Those experts are telling
me that we are still in the live search phase because, feasibly,
someone could still be alive out there,” Winter Springs Police Chief
Kevin Butler said Monday morning.Nadia's bike was found last Friday
near a wooded area that has become the focus of attention and has
become the interest of bloodhounds that are being used to help in
the search.Investigators said there is nothing strange about the way
her bicycle was found. It was parked at the end of a cul-de-sac,
near a home, with its kickstand down and the helmet placed on the
handlebar.Nadia's sister told investigators that she has an interest
in survival skills and had two cameras and the Lanie Holland book
in the backpack police believe is with her. But, if she is trying to
survive, it would prove to be a difficult task because of the
proximity to Lake Jessup, a huge lake filled with alligators."It's a
bad, bad environment there, and it's going to be tough for anybody
who's out there, especially an 11-year-old," Chief Butler
said. Before the sun went down Sunday night, searchers tried to
provide help if she is lost or just exploring. They left water
bottles for her with notes telling the autistic girl to
go home.During the overnight hours. between Sunday night and
into Monday morning, police used helicopters equipped with heat
detectiontechnology to try to locate the girl. but they did not find
anything.Searchers also said that, while canines have indicated that
the girl was in the area, they have not been able to track her scent.Nadia
was last seen wearing an orange shirt, blue shorts, and possibly
carryinga black horse backpack. Anyone with information on the location
of Nadia Bloom is asked to contact the Florida Department of Law
Enforcementtip line at 1-866-282-0672.

I'd like to welcome our new members and guests and let them know there is much more discussion of this case on the Main Blog.

I've asked a friend of mine to help determine if KF is generating $$$ from hits off the website he swooped in and purchased. I'm not sure he can tell that...we'll see.

I know, Ovi. Other URLS are available though. I'd seriously buy them if I could and give them to the family, but the parents may not even want a website. I know for certain they don't want to have to deal with this sort of nonsense at such a vulnerable and painful moment in their lives.

Thanks for emailing Kathy. I'd like to see her bust "KidFinders" once and for all.

I also asked my friend if there is any way to get the website out from under Dennis. I don't think there is...

The search for Nadia
Bloom, the missing 11-year-old girl from Winter Springs, has spread to
the Internet. You can learn more at Help Find Nadia Bloom on Facebook.

But
there’s another wrinkle in the story, as WFTV-Channel 9 reported last
night.

“A group involved in the Caylee Anthony case has launched a
Web site to help find Nadia,” WFTV anchor Darrell Greene said. “The Kid
Finders Network created this Web site, nadiabloom.com. The
organization, along with George and Cindy Anthony, also started handing
out fliers today with Nadia’s picture on them. The Blooms say they
appreciate the help, but they don’t approve of the Web site and they
want it taken down.”

The Web site remained up this morning.

George
and Cindy Anthony also appeared in the Blooms’ neighborhood Friday
night to offer support to the family. WFTV reported last night that a
Winter Springs police officer was patrolling the Blooms’ gated community
to keep out the media and outsiders.

You can read the Sentinel’s
story here.

Bloodhounds are providing
some new clues in the
search for 11-year-old Nadia Bloom.
NADIA BLOOM - 11 yo - Winter Springs FL - Page 2 Nadia%20bloom-2_m

The girl disappeared Friday
afternoon in some
woods near the family's home in the gated
community of Barrington
Estates off State Road 434 in Winter
Springs.

Search and rescue
crews resumed the search for
Nadia Monday morning. Police plan to
provide an update on the search
at 4:30 p.m. Stay tuned to AM 580 WDBO
for the latest.

Scent
detected

Police Chief Kevin Brunelle says their dogs picked
up Nadia's scent in an area just
north of where her bike was found
the day she went missing.

"So then we go in there and we search
any dense brush or anything there that
might lead us to believe
she's in that area either stuck, stuck in mud,
laying down or
whatever it may be," said Brunelle.

Between 40 and 50 searchers
are looking for Nadia today. The group is made up of
law enforcement
and specially-trained volunteers.

Brunelle says all signs point
to Nadia still being alive.

"I'm being told by all the
personnel that I have available to me out there that this is
still,
in fact, a live search," said Brunelle.

He tells us the slightly
autistic girl has a fascination with the woods and may have
gotten
lost while taking pictures.

"We do know that she has a curiosity
for wilderness and picking flowers and wanting to go out and
do
some exploring," said Brunelle.

Officers say Nadia had a book
about exploring and taking pictures in the backpack when she
disappeared.
She also reportedly had a video camera and a still camera.
Her
younger sister told authorities Nadia wanted to make a nature film.

So this is what my friend said:

"I don't see any kind of revenue generation on the site. And they
specifically say they're not collecting donations. I'm not sure what
their motives are. It's possible they could try to make money from
the site later in time if this becomes a historical event in the media.

Getting
the domain name handed over would probably be difficult. Celebrities
can generally get their names handed over because their name is their
business, like a trademark. But I'm not sure it would apply to a case
like this. I can't remember the name of the organization that does the
arbitration for domain names but try searching for "domain arbitration"
in google and see what you can come up with. Only problem is that even
if you do get it wrestled away from them, it could take months. "

A missing child alert was issued on Monday for an
11-year-old Winter Springs girl who disappeared three days ago.Rescuers
combed through wooded areas near Nadia Bloom's home in Winter Springs
after her sister said she was recently reading a book about wilderness
exploration. At a news conference on Monday, Winter Springs Police
Department Chief Kevin Brunelle said the search so far has turned up
nothing. No clothing, backpack, shoes or any other items have been
recovered.
"It keeps me hopeful, and a lot of the searchers I've talked with are
hopeful. Even though we understand the length and we understand the
conditions, we need to maintain a positive outlook on it," Brunelle
said.Brunelle said during the news conference that until his
experts tell him otherwise, he and his team are continuing the search
for Nadia.Seminole County alert helicopters patrolled through the
night for any sign of the missing girl. The helicopters are equipped
with heat sensors, but Brunelle said they detected no movement except
wildlife.Crews will expand their search Monday near Black Hammock
Trail and Lake Jesup in light of the new lead.Thirty police
dogs, amphibious vehicles, divers and officers on the ground are looking
for the autistic girl who disappeared Friday. Nadia is 5 feet tall and
weighs 85 pounds. She has brown hair and brown eyes. Police said she was
last seen wearing an orange T-shirt and blue shorts, and she was
carrying a black backpack with a horse on it."A bicycle at the
end of a cul-de-sac (was found) with one home off to the right-hand side
and nothing but dense woods in front of you, on its kickstand, helmet
taken off and placed on the handle bars, just like somebody got off the
bike to take a walk or to go into a house or anything like that. That's
the scene that we have right now," Brunelle said.
"I'm really sad because she's my friend and I've known her for a really
long time, and I really hope that we find her," friend Sophia Sarabasa
said. The Metro Church congregation prayed for Nadia and her
family on Sunday. Her former Sunday school teachers shared a little more
about the girl, who has become a familiar face on the news and on
fliers around town."She's pretty independent," Robert Meeks said.
"She gets focused on a certain thought process and she gets pretty
determined."
Crisis counselors will be at Nadia's school, Lawton Elementary School,
Monday helping students cope."I just pray every minute that they
come out of the woods with Nadia," parent Linda Sarabasa said.Brunelle
said during the news conference that the next phase of the search of a
heavily wooded area near the police command post will continue with dog
teams, authorities will compile and review all the information so far
that they have obtained and authorities will continue to check sex
offender and sexual predator Web sites county-wide.It was earlier
reported that Nadia may have a survival manual with her, but Brunelle
said Monday morning that authorities now know the book she has is called
"Meet Lanie Holland," which is part of the American Girl series. The
book explores a love of nature and science.Anyone with
information should contact the Florida Department of Law Enforcement Tip
Line at 866-282-0672, the Winter Springs Police Department at
407-327-1000 or 911.

Nadia Bloom news: Girl’s family doesn’t want help from group
that assisted in Caylee Anthony search

An organization that assisted in the search for Caylee Anthony has set
up a web site for missing Florida girl Nadia
Bloom without her family’s permission. Reports indicate Nadia’s
family does not approve of the site and wants it removed from the
Internet.

According to Hal Boedeker with the Orlando Sentinel, WFTV reported
that The Kid Finders Network has created nadiabloom.com and has begun
handing out flyers with Nadia’s photo on them. Darrell Greene with WFTV
said “The Blooms appreciate the help, but they don’t approve of the Web

Police believe Nadia is alive in woods

Updated: Monday, 12 Apr 2010, 8:36 PM EDT

WINTER SPRINGS, Fla. (WOFL FOX 35) -
Officers with the Winter Springs Police Department are still searching
for an 11-year-old girl, reported missing shortly after 4:30 p.m.
Investigators believe Nadia Bloom may have been inspired by a book
about an adventurous girl who decides to go camping in her backyard.
Authorities say she disappeared the same day her sister and father left
for a trip to the Everglades with a Brownie troop, and that she
carrying a book called "Lanie" about a young girl who loves the
outdoors. WATCH: News conference with latest on search efforts>>> Multiple
law enforcement agencies are working together searching both no the
ground and by helicopter surveillance around the Barrington Estates
subdivision, about half a mile south of Lake Jesup. PHOTO GALLERY >>>> Nadia
was last seen wearing orange shorts and a blue shirt. She has brown
hair and brown eyes. She is 5 feet tall and weighs approximately 85
pounds. story continues below >>>> Approximate search area: Bloom
is a resident of Barrington Estates. Her family says she has an
autism-related disorder called Asperger syndrome. Her bicycle was
found just a few blocks from her home, according to investigators. Police
officers and deputies aren't the only ones looking for Nadia,
volunteers are helping too. Many of them live near Black Hammock where
Nadia disappeared. They know the woods and swampland very well and hope
their amateur expertise can help. "This little girls been
missing for a while and we live right here and we feel like if there's
anything we can do to help that, we wanna be out there," said volunteer
searcher John Martin. The area where the search is happening is
on the south shore of Lake Jesup. It's an area of dense forest and
swamp. Police tell FOX 35 the ground turns into a nasty, dense and
twisted tangle trees and Cyprus knees within a couple hundred yards of
the spot where Nadia vanished. Locak fisherman Charlie Turner
knows the lake and land well and would not want to be lost in Black
Hammock. "You'd be up to your knees in muck. Ive been in swamps before
but not anything that looks like that," said Turner. "I got a
grandson, so I worry about a kid being up in there." Larry
Leinhouser came all the way from Manatee County to help look for the
girl. "Some of the conditions we've encountered. Heavy amounts mud
swamp lakes pretty good. Insects snakes," said Leinhouser. He
says walking through the brush can be dangerous. "What we encountered
Sunday morning was more snakes than anything else we heard other
animals," Leinhouser said. "The only thing that would be a threat to a normal person might be alligators," said Jeff Hudson, with Florida Fish and Wildlife . "No alligators over three feet were found on scene." Rescuers
are also searching by boat. "If we see some infrared we hit the wave
and make GPS and send in divers," said Winter Springs Police
Chief Kevin Brunelle. Three ponds have been searched so far. The
police chief says right now, there's still no sign of foul play but
cautioned during a news conference on Monday that, "nothing related to
Nadia has been found." Chief Brunelle also said helicopters have yet
to pick up any heat signatures of a human during night flights. "If
there is any chance or remote possibility that this child could be
alive, we're going to continue a live search investigation." Though
this is not considered an abduction, law enforcement agents are in the
process of vetting the county's sex offender registry. 'We have talked
and interviewed sex offenders within a 5 mile radius," Chief Brunelle
added. George and Cindy Anthony, parents of accused murder
suspect Casey Anthony, arrived late Friday to offer their support.
George Anthony returned Saturday morning hoping to aid searchers. If you have information about Bloom's whereabouts, contact the Winter Springs Police Department at 407-327-1000

Authorities said they may have a new lead in the search for a
missing 11-year-old girl.Police believe Nadia Bloom may have run
off after reading a book. The book, called "Lanie," follows a girl
who goes on outdoor adventures. As of late Monday, police
believed Nadia could still be alive, but time is running out.
Crews are continuing to search the woods and ponds throughout the
Lake Jesup Conservation Area, which is near the subdivision Bloom went
missing from Friday. One of the biggest concerns is wildlife in
the area. Lake Jesup is home to an estimated 15,000 alligators.Winter
Springs police continued searching through the night, but not inside
the woods. To date, police have done 12 dives on six bodies are
water. They have used sonar and heat detecting cameras, but have only
detected animals. An alert has also been sent out, and a perimeter
set up in case she comes out.For now, police said they don't
suspect foul play in the girl's disappearance.Bloom's parents
believe the child may have just wandered off and got lost.

A group of civilian searchers have found the missing girl alive,
sources said.Nadia Bloom, 11, has been missing since Friday
afternoon. The girl was thought to be somewhere in a vast conservation
area between her home and alligator-infested Lake Jesup.P.J.
Yarosh of Metro Church in Winter Springs said he thinks one of their
church members found Nadia Bloom. The girl and her family attend
services at that church."We are very excited about it, too,"
Yarosh said this morning. "We are still waiting for confirmation and
we're happy she was found alive."Yarosh said the church has about
700 members. There is heavy police presence on State Road 417,
just south of the Lake Jesup bridge. Crime scene tape is covering an
opening near S.R. 417 and a law-enforcement chopper is hovering over
that area. The search had entered its fourth day this morning
before the girl's discovery.

as he left the scene literally covered in mud. He told one of his
pastors that he was nearly waist-deep in mud to get to where Nadia was
found, walking alone with a water pack on his back.King had been
part of the search for days, but Tuesday, just hours before experts said
Nadia should have been dead, he decided to trek into an area no one had
gone before."In all your ways acknowledge him and he will direct
your path and he directed my path straight to her," King shouted to the
crowd, reinforcing the role he says his faith played, after finding
Nadia and returning with the rescue crew. "Because I prayed that all the
way."Nadia's family was anxiously waiting at an area just on the
edge of the woods for the little girl's arrival. The girl's parents and
sister were visibly elated (see

“You’ve got to believe God’s hand was in it,” said
Dan Holland, senior pastor at the family's church, Metro Life Church in
Casselberry. “She was able to talk.”King was searching the woods
for Nadia on his own and found the girl alive Tuesday morning, saying
he could only see bug bites when he found her. Holland said King told
him he said a prayer and asked God to lead him to Nadia. According to
Holland, King was pushing through a swamp-area when he made the
discovery.NADIA BLOOM - 11 yo - Winter Springs FL - Page 2 23136314_240X135NADIA BLOOM - 11 yo - Winter Springs FL - Page 2 Enlarge_image_btn

James King (pictured) believes divine
intervention helped lead him to where Nadia Bloom was in the woods.
"He
said he went straight out through the swamps and found her,” Holland
said.Investigators said Nadia was found in an area they called
Zone 13 (see
map)
, which had not been previously searched and is possibly
the most dense woods of the search area.Search teams had been
looking for Bloom since she was first reported missing last Friday after
her bicycle was found parked near a wooded area in her neighborhood.
The mildly autistic girl is fascinated by the outdoors and wildlife, so
investigators thought she might have tried to explore the dense woods
behind her house off SR-434 near Lake Jesup.Friday, Nadia's bike
was found at the end of a cul-de-sac in her Barrington Estates
subdivision (see
map
), near only one home, standing deliberately with the
kickstand down and her helmet hanging on the handlebars.WFTV
learned about Nadia's fascination with a popular "American Girls" doll.
The fictional character, Lanie (more about Lanie
character)
, is an outdoorsy nature-lover who explores her own
backyard. WFTV learned Nadia had a book about Lanie and two cameras with
her in the backpack she was wearing Friday.Nadia has a form of
autism similar to Asperger's Syndrome. Friends said she's extremely
bright, a spelling bee winner, but also the type to get lost in her own
world.
911 CALL RELEASEDJust
after Nadia was found, the 911 call reporting her disappearance, made
Friday afternoon by her mom was released (hear it).
During the call, Nadia’s mother became so upset a neighbor had to take
over."Hi, um, my daughter is missing, she took a bike ride and we
happen to live by a pond, down by our subdivision in Barrington
Estates, and I can't find her,” Tanya Bloom told the dispatcher.

Poster's Note: Poor little child is gonna need some Caladryl for all those 'skeeter bites.
It's not a very sharp image but I can see hundreds on her arm.

An 11-year-old girl was being treated Tuesday for insect bites and
dehydration in a Florida hospital after spending four days in
alligator-infested woods and swampland.Rescuers and other law
enforcement officials carried Nadia Bloom out of the woods in a sling
more than three hours after rescuer James King called 911 to report he
had found her. King, 44, of Orlando, Fla., was a volunteer searcher who is a member
of Metro Church, where the child's family worships. "I didn't
all of a sudden see her," King said. "I was yelling, 'Nadia! Nadia!' and
she said, 'What?' " Nadia's father, Jeff, thanked the rescuers. "It all came so fast, and it just shows the compassion of the human
spirit. It should give everybody encouragement," he told reporters after
rescue crews lifted his daughter into an ambulance. "I can't even
describe it. Let's give the glory to God." Nadia, who has an
autism-related disorder called Asperger's syndrome, was covered in bug
bites, her feet were waterlogged, and she was dehydrated, officials
said. She was not wearing shoes when she was found, said officials, who
described her as being in good condition. Parents Jeff and Tanya,
as well as younger sister Sophia, watched as Nadia was driven away to
South Seminole Hospital in Longwood. "She's smiling. Her vital
[signs] are stable. She has some abrasions and bites. She is dehydrated
and receiving [intravenous] fluids and wound care," said Dr. Rakesh
Parekh, medical director at South Seminole. "She is doing remarkably
well." Parekh said the goal for doctors was to stabilize Nadia
and make sure she hadn't suffered more serious injuries. "We
expect a short course in the hospital," he said. Officials are
interviewing King about what led him to Nadia and how he reached her.
King has already told investigators that he walked into the large,
wooded area from a spot near State Road 417 and found the girl on a dry
patch of wetland. King told reporters that faith led him to
Nadia. Winter Springs Police Chief Kevin Brunelle said King is a
"hero to me right now." Brunelle said investigators had no reason to be
suspicious of the rescue and that Nadia was found in an area that had
not been cleared by the search teams. Nadia said two things to
rescuers: "I'm glad you guys found me" and "I can't believe you guys
rescued me." She also told investigators she had not seen or
talked to anyone since she walked into the woods Friday afternoon.

COUNTY, Fla. --
WFTV obtained the emotional 911 call (hear
it)

made by a volunteer searcher after he found missing
11-year-old Nadia
Bloom alive. James King is now being called a
hero.

React To Discovery
The release of the call
provides a better understanding of how Nadia
was doing when King found
her."Hey, I've got her. I got Nadia,"
James King told the 911
dispatcher Tuesday morning.King made the
call two hours after he
went into the thick swamp to look for
11-year-old Nadia Bloom. Even the
911 dispatcher who took the call
questioned King's story because for
some it seemed unbelievable that
Bloom could be found alive."Sir,
do you have contact with her?" the
dispatcher asked."I'm holding
her right now, yes. She's okay.
She's got bites all over her," King
relayed to the
dispatcher.Despite King's claims, it seemed the
dispatcher still had
doubt until her heard Nadia's voice for himself."Hi,
this is Nadia.
I'm the girl who got lost," Nadia told the dispatcher."Okay,

Nadia, are you okay, you're not hurt in anyway?" the dispatcher
asked.The
young girl miraculously survived nearly five days in a
swamp filled
with alligators and snakes. That alone would have
scared most people and
forced them to give up. Instead, Nadia kept
the faith."I kept
saying over and over again, I trust that God will
lead me home," Nadia
told the dispatcher.Trained rescuers searched
for days, but to no
avail; they hardly found a trace of the
adventurous fifth grader.James
King is a member of Nadia's church.
During the 911 call, he told
dispatchers he started his one-man
search at daylight Tuesday and he too
put his faith in the lord.
King said God led him straight to the
missing girl."Nadia, can I
take your picture?" King asked."Sure,"
an upbeat Nadia replied."This
one is so you can show how God
protected you," King said.Even after
King found Nadia in the
woods, it was not easy getting her out. The
tree canopy was so thick
that rescuers could not find him, even
with GPSNADIA BLOOM - 11 yo - Winter Springs FL - Page 2 2_bing
coordinates. As a result, King
decided to go more lo-tech. He draped
trees with toilet paper to
make him easier to see and so that rescuers
could follow his trail.
