LYFE BROWN - 17 months - Houston TX
A baby is missing and a day care center is now under investigation by
the state after the toddler's disappearance. 17-month-old Lyfe
Brown has not been seen since Tuesday morning. Family members say she
disappeared after daycare workers allegedly handed the baby over to an
unidentified man who was not even asked for identification. The
president of the day care center insists that the center followed all
procedures. "I've been up all night, all night, looking," says
Yolanda Wooten, the toddler's grandmother. Kids R People 2 on
Reed Road allegedly gave the baby to a man who is not on the list of
people authorized to take her. Relatives say they have no idea who the
man is. "They went on the inside, retrieved this young
17-month-old baby without signing any documentation, without presenting
any identification," says community activist Quanell X. Yolanda
Wooten has had custody of little Lyfe since the baby was two months old.
"This is my grand-baby. I don't know if she's eating. I don't know if
she's got diapers. I don't know nothing. I don't know nothing. I just
have to wonder where she is," says the missing girl's grandmother. Wooten
says her daughter lost custody of all six of her children, years ago.
Family members say whether Lyfe's mother or a stranger is behind taking
the 17-month-old, they fear for the baby's safety. "Yes she's in
great danger," says the baby's great aunt Kemmie Estes. A
director for Kids R People 2 says the center did not release the baby to
a stranger. She says the toddler was released to her older brother and
he was not asked for identification because he has picked up the baby a
number of times before. State Child Care Licensing is launching
an investigation. "Anytime that something happens and you don't
know where your child is or if you feel like the people you trust with
your children haven't done what you asked them to do, it's very
serious," says Child Care Licensing spokesperson Gwen Carter. Kids
R People 2 on Reed Road is licensed and has been in business about
eight years. According to the state, the center had it's last
violation last year when a child's foot was run over by a daycare van
and the incident wasn't reported, as required. The Houston Police
Department says it's treating the missing baby as a custody battle.

asking the reporter for an update- via email. i read somewhere that it was the older brother who took the baby but he doesn't have custody and wasn't approved - so they shouldn't have given her to him in the first place.

RE: 17 month old taken from day care?
has she been located yet?
Hello: redacted
I just realized my email response to
you was stuck
in the outbox. The baby has been discovered out of state with her
biological father. I'm told this is now a custodial case and not a
criminal one.
has she been located yet?
