Re: CHRISTIAN FERGUSON - 10 yo (2003) - St. Louis MO
It was seven years ago today that Christian Ferguson a
nine-year-old boy with a rare medical condition known as citrullinemia
went missing -- allegedly kidnapped during a vehicle theft in 2003.
Police have never charged anyone with the crime though many suspect his
father, Dawan Ferguson, played a role in the child's disappearance.
Last year, Riverfront Times ran a
two-part series on Christian's disappearance. From those articles:
The 911 call came in half an hour after sunrise, at 6:09 a.m. on
Wednesday, June 11, 2003. From a pay phone at the southeast corner of
Page Boulevard and Skinker Parkway, just inside the St. Louis city
limits, Dawan Ferguson informed the dispatcher that his SUV had been
stolen and his handicapped son kidnapped. When St. Louis police
officers arrived at the scene, a nondescript
strip mall at a major intersection, Ferguson "began crying while
stating, 'My son is gone, my son is gone' repeatedly," the officers
would note in an incident report.
Christian's mother Theda Thomas plans to hold a seven-mile walk for her son on June 26 --
one mile for each year her son has gone missing. The march will start at
7 a.m. at the intersection of Page and Skinker where he child was last seen alive.
"I know that a lot of people probably think I'm crazy to walk seven miles for seven years," Thomas said. "But my opinion is, this is my son.

Re: CHRISTIAN FERGUSON - 10 yo (2003) - St. Louis MO
Before Theda Thomas began a walk Saturday morning to
mark the seventh anniversary of the disappearance of her son,
Christian Ferguson, she prayed with friends and family by the pay
phone where he was reported missing.
The phone, at the southeastern corner of Page and Skinker
boulevards, was where Christian's father, Dawan Ferguson, told
police he stopped on June 11, 2003, to make a call. Dawan Ferguson
said someone then drove off in his SUV with Christian, 9, inside.
Thomas, 38, said Saturday she believes her son is dead and wants
to find his body. She said she walks so people don't forget about
her son. But she also wants people to be inspired to report abuse
and neglect and to call attention to her anger about how her son's
case has been handled by authorities.
"Everybody should be concerned and touched by Christian's case," Thomas said.
She is angry that no charges have been filed in her son's
disappearance and that her mission is to pressure authorities to "do the right thing," she said.
This is the sixth year she has walked in honor of Christian, who
would now be 16. Christian suffered from a rare genetic disease
that required large amounts of medication to keep him alive, and he could not walk or talk.
On Saturday, Thomas said the Lord's Prayer before setting out on
a seven-mile walk with about a dozen family and friends. She wore a
T-shirt with Christian's picture on it.
"I'm ready to walk, walk, walk," she said as she moved briskly
down Page. Their procession included a motorcycle escort from the
Social Riders Motorcycle Club and two minivans with flashing lights.
One van carried a bench showing the pictures of several missing
children. Christian's picture was displayed, as was that of Gebar
Byrd Jr., a baby who went missing in March and whose father has
been charged with his murder - although Gebar's body has not been
found - as well as the murder of the child's mother.
Sandra Wilson, 64, joined her husband, Theodore, in the second
van after walking for a bit. They are Thomas' parents.
"It says to me that I'm doing something," Sandra Wilson said.
"Christian is my grandson and I want to know what happened to him."
The procession headed east on Page, continued onto Martin Luther
King Drive, then south on Compton Avenue.
The Rev. Steve Robeson walked the entire route as he has done
every year except last, when he had to officiate a wedding. He was
pastor of St. Simon of Cyrene Catholic Church, where the Wilsons
and Thomas attended when Christian went missing.
"I'm here to stand with people who are hurting," said Robeson,
who now serves at St. John Catholic Church in Imperial.
They ended their walk at Yummies Soul Food restaurant at 3139
Shenandoah Avenue, where Thomas works. Employees scrambled to ready
a finish line of red and yellow streamers as the walkers neared.
After the initial celebration of finishing the walk, Robeson
once again led them in prayer.
He stood by Thomas as she released two white balloons.
"We love you, Christian," Thomas said, watching them drift into
the sky. "We miss you."
After Christian went missing, Dawan Ferguson refused to take a
lie detector test and refused further interviews with police,
authorities have said. He has maintained his innocence and has not
been charged in the case. He could not be reached for comment.
St. Louis police say that their investigation of Christian's
disappearance is ongoing and that detectives "continue to believe
persons close to the case have information they have still not
shared with police. The detectives feel if this information comes
to light, there would be a resolution to the case."

Christian Ferguson's mom uses his birthday to launch new campaign
10:42 PM, Oct 7, 2013
By Anne Allred
ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - Theda Wilson, whose son disappeared 10 years ago, is launching a new campaign to help other missing children.
Christian Ferguson disappeared without a trace, and Wednesday marks his 20th birthday. His mom is using his birth date, Oct. 9, to raise awareness. She's asking people to take 10 minutes to look at the pictures of nine missing children.
"I don't want anybody to forget about my son any day, and I want them to also remember everybody else that's missing," Wilson said.
Wilson has created a non-profit website called Looking for an Angel. You can also log on to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children's website to see other missing children from the area.
