Wyoming MI ---- A quick police response to a 9-1-1 call may have
saved the lives of two kids who were allegedly being forced to drink a
toxic mixture of brake fluid, and over the counter drugs from sippy
cups by their father at a home on Milan St. in Wyoming. Police say he
intended to poison the 2 year old boy and 6 year old girl and then stab
himself to death.
Capt. Brad Schutter says they forced their way in and rushed the kids
to the hospital yesterday. Neighbors say that Jose Oliva Rosa let
everyone know he was having trouble coping with the break-up of his
marriage.
The kids were treated and released. Rosa was immediately arrested and
is being held without bond for attempted murder, child abuse and
poisoning. The courts had just issued his wife a personal protection
order, requiring Rosa to keep his distance

Authorities say a 25-year-old southwest Michigan man who used sippy cups to deliver poisonous cocktails to
his two children has been charged.
Jose Enrique Oliva-Rosa of Wyoming was arraigned Thursday on two
counts each of attempted murder, poisoning and second-degree child abuse.
Police say Oliva-Rosa forced his 6-year-old daughter and
2-year-old son to drink a concoction that included cold medicine,
brake fluid, ibuprofen and rust treatment fluid. Oliva-Rosa also consumed a similar drink.
Officers discovered all three in Oliva-Rosa's home on Tuesday after being alerted by a 911 call.
They were taken to the hospital, and the children were later
released to their biological mother, who was not living with Oliva-Rosa.
A June 9 hearing is scheduled.

A father was arraigned Thursday for allegedly trying to poison his
children by making them drink a liquid that included brake fluid from
sippy cups.
Jose Enrique Oliva-Rosa was denied bond on the charges lodged against
him.
On Tuesday, Oliva-Rosa's wife filed a person protection order against
him, calling him "controlling, jealous and volatile."
About 1 1/2 hours later, Wyoming police went to his home on Milan SW
after a 911 call that he was going to kill his children and then stab
himself. It's not clear who made that emergency call.
The children, a 6-year-old girl and 2-year-old boy, were with
Oliva-Rosa in the living room.
Court documents show he poisoned his kids so he could "take them with
him."
The kids ingested a cocktail of brake fluid, penetrating fluid,
ibuprofen and DayQuil.
"The children knew something was wrong, and they knew they did not
want to drink ... any of that liquid," Wyoming Capt. Brad
Schutter commented. "So, they knew what dad was doing was
wrong."
Oliva-Rosa drank more of the liquid than his children.
Police had to break in to the home, but were able to take Oliva-Rosa
into custody without incident.
They were all taken to a hospital for treatment. The children were
evaluated and then released to their mother, who was not living with the
family at the Wyoming house.
Oliva-Rosa, 25, stayed in the hospital overnight.
His wife of five years told court officials she was afraid he could
snap. She left him last week, neighbors told 24 Hour News 8, moving her
belongings out little by little.
"He's not handling this like a civilized person," she wrote in the
PPO. "He is coming to my job, standing on his knees, blocking traffic on
the main road."
Oliva-Rosa harassed his wife, she says in the order, as he has done
everything from following her, to badgering her with text messages and
threatening to kill her.
He is being held in jail on two counts of attempted murder, two
counts of poisoning and two counts of felony child abuse.
He is scheduled to be in court June 9. Oliva-Rosa has no history of
violence against his children, police said.

A Wyoming man is facing prison after pleading to trying to kill his children by poisoning them.
During a circuit court hearing Friday, Jose Oliva-Rosa, 26, pleaded
no contest to two charges of attempted murder. In exchange for his
plea, prosecutors agreed to drop other charges, including child abuse.
Police arrested the man in May after learning he had plotted to kill
himself and his children. Officers found them at Oliva-Rosa's Milan
Ave. home, and discovered he had given his six-year-old daughter and
two-year-old son a concoction that included brake fluid and liquid flu
medicine.
The children were treated at Helen DeVos Children's Hospital and released into their mother's custody.
Investigators say Oliva-Rosa was upset over the break-up of his marriage.
Sentencing is scheduled for March 31.
