The 16-year-old Westport girl who went missing early Sunday morning
has been found, is in fine condition, and has been reunited with her
parents this evening, police said.
Gabriella Davey, a Staples High School sophomore last seen by her sister
Sunday at 1:30 a.m., was believed to be heading to New York City, but
instead had traveled to Bridgeport from where she phoned her parents at 5
p.m. this evening, said Lt. Jerry Shannon.
“Apparently she had gone to a church, and someone from a church gave her
a ride home,” Shannon said. “We’re not sure how she got there.”
“We’re pleased that she returned home safe and sound,” he added.
In searching for Davey, who was clad in dotted
pajama bottoms and carrying a brown handbag when she left, Westport
police had contacted New York City and Bridgeport police, as well as Metro North.
“Most of the area agencies did have messages from us, and they were out
looking for her,” said Shannon. “We had a lot of tips.
“We had messages sent to New York and soon found that the possibility
turned out to be false, and then we did contact Bridgeport,” he added.
After Davey called home this evening, her parents made arrangements with
someone at the church, which has not been identified, to drive her
home, said Shannon. In making the announcement, Sgt. David Farrell
stressed that Davey “is home safe.”
“The Westport Police Department would like to thank the agencies and
civilians who helped in locating Gabriella,” said Farrell.
