"Newborn John" FINNELL - 6 Weeks - Gladstone (NE of Wichita) KS

A father has been charged with first-degree assault for injuries
suffered by his 6-week-old baby.The abuse investigation
into Jonathan M. Finnell of Gladstone began May 31 when the infant’s mother
discovered the child having a difficult time breathing. An examination
at Children’s Mercy Hospital found internal injuries, a number of broken
ribs and a head injury.Finnell told police the baby slipped out
of his arms while he was filling a water bottle. His version was
inconsistent with the injuries, authorities said.Finnell
surrendered himself and bond was set at $250,000. He was being held in
the Clay County jail.
