Would anyone on this board be kind enough to message "LEXXIE" we have a facebook going and growing with alot of people that care about Matthew and want justice for him. I have been unsuccessful in finding out at least if Baby Matthew was given a proper burial and where. So many people love and care about him.

Here is our page for baby matthew. Please join us, on there is also the online petition for the max sentence for the both of them. Its not enough to undo what they did to thier son, but it is been said that people who rape infants are uncurable, Im disgusted and my anger and sadness grows. I have had no luck in even finding where this precious angel is buried

How could I contact you? We have located a picture! But Matthew's body is currently still in custody.

There is a nice memorial at the hospital for him. Check out the page. They are in the pictures.

Vandergriff attorneys clash over defending client

KINGMAN — The defense attorney for a Bullhead City man charged with his son’s murder plans to remove his co-counsel from the case.

Jonathan Edward Vandergriff, 25, is charged with first-degree murder, child abuse by domestic violence, sexual assault of a minor under the age of 15 and sexual conduct with a minor under the age of 15 for the death of his infant son in June 2010.

Vandergriff’s current attorney, Randall Craig, said Friday that he plans to file a motion to remove his client’s other attorney, Creighton Cornell of Tucson. Craig said he did not request that Cornell act as co-counsel and that Cornell has filed motions that have no bearing on the case. Craig said he is working on the high profile case and has concerns about battling with Cornell on side issues.

One example of the infighting was releasing the infant’s body for burial. Craig previously gave permission to release the body as requested by Deputy Mohave County Attorney Greg McPhillips. Superior Court Commissioner Derek Carlisle ruled to release the body. However, Cornell, speaking by phone at Friday’s hearing, asked the judge not to release the child’s body, which the judge again denied. McPhillips said Matthew Vandergriff’s body is expected to be buried April 4. The judge set Vandergriff’s next hearing for May 4.

At a prior hearing, Carlisle denied Vandergriff’s request for Cornell to be his attorney ruling that Vandergriff, as an indigent defendant, is not entitled to choose his attorney. He may hire Cornell on a contract or Cornell can act pro bono, or for free. Cornell currently acts as a Napp attorney, or an attorney who only assists Craig.

Cornell was initially assigned the case being a death penalty qualified attorney. The case was first assigned to the public defender’s office but no attorneys in that office are qualified to work on death penalty cases. Superior Court Judge Richard Weiss terminated Cornell’s contract when McPhillips took the death penalty off the table. Death penalty cases would cost the county as much as 10 times what a non-capital case cost.

Vandergriff’s co-defendant, Staci Lynn Barbosa, 20, pleaded guilty in October 2011 to second-degree murder for the murder of the boy. Judge Steven Conn sentenced her March 16 to 15 years in prison.

On June 15, 2010 Barbosa took her son, Matthew to the Western Arizona Regional Medical Center, where he was suffering from bruises, broken ribs, broken femur, swollen and shut eyes and was malnourished and dehydrated. The infant allegedly showed signs of sexual abuse and shaken baby syndrome. Matthew was later taken to a Las Vegas hospital where he died the next morning. Barbosa was arrested at the hospital by police. Vandergriff turned himself in to police officers later that day.

KINGMAN — The side show involving the two attorneys for a Bullhead
City man charged with his son’s murder ended Friday with a Superior
Court judge removing one of the defense attorneys from the case.

Creighton Cornell, of Tucson, had been acting as a Knapp attorney for Jonathan
Edward Vandergriff, 25, who is charged with first-degree murder, child
abuse by domestic violence, sexual assault of a minor under the age of
15 and sexual conduct with a minor under the age of 15 for the death of
his infant son in June 2010.

A Knapp counsel acts to assist
Vandergriff’s main attorney, Randall Craig. Cornell at first filed a
motion to excuse Superior Court Commissioner Derek Carlisle from the
case because of the appearance of bias.

Deputy Mohave County
Attorney Greg McPhillips accused Cornell’s motion as another attempt to
further delay the case. The prosecutor said that Cornell has also
accused other judges, including Judges Richard Weiss, Steven Conn and
Rick Williams, and well as Chief Public Defender John Pecchia of bias.

Carlisle denied that motion, saying that he made it known in
the past that he was friends and played sports with McPhillips as well
as being friends and playing sports with other attorneys and felt he
could still be fair in his rulings.

The attorneys then argued a
motion filed by Craig to remove Cornell as Knapp counsel. Craig said
Cornell has caused an unreasonable delay in the case by questioning the
bias and competency of other judges and attorneys. Craig also accused
Cornell of allegations that bordered on threats. Craig said he wants the
case to move forward and not deal with Cornell’s “meritless” issues,
which did not advance Vandergriff’s case, Craig said.

Cornell accused Craig of not meeting with Vandergriff for about three months
when he first took the case. Craig countered that he was in the middle
of a serial killer murder trial in Phoenix and did send his investigator.

Carlisle allowed the removal of Cornell as Knapp
counsel, in effect ending Cornell’s participation in Vandergriff’s
murder case. The judge said that both attorneys had differing goals and
were unable to work together; Carlisle also set Vandergriff’s next
hearing for June 1.

Vandergriff’s request for Cornell to be his attorney ruling that
Vandergriff, as an indigent defendant, is not entitled to choose his
attorney; legal representation is assigned to the case. Cornell was
initially assigned as a death penalty-qualified attorney. Weiss
