"Infant" SCHOBER - 23 Months - Beloit (S of Madison; IL border ) WI
Beloit police said that the mother of a
toddler who they think was abused by a 10-year-old babysitter has been
arrested on a charge of child neglect.Police said the
23-month-old's mother, Stephanie L. Schober, 21, was arrested Friday.
Police said the arrest is as a result of the responsibility of the parent to
provide for the appropriate care of the child.A 10-year-old girl
who was babysitting the child is accused of abusing the toddler, who
suffered brain and external injuries.Juvenile court documents
said the 10-year-old told authorities she became angry and frustrated
with the child while babysitting for seven hours on June 30 and hit the
toddler with a belt, plastic bat and toys. The 23-month-old child
suffered severe brain injuries and a skull fracture.According to
the doctors who evaluated the toddler, her injuries were consistent with
a child being hit by a car or falling from several stories. The
toddler was transferred to Children's Hospital in Milwaukee. The child
is expected to survive, but authorities said recovery from the injuries
will be a long process. The girl appeared in Rock County Circuit
Court Friday via a closed circuit camera from the juvenile detention
center. She showed no emotion during the 15-minute court session. The
girl will remain in juvenile custody.Police
said Schober has a mandatory court appearance on Aug. 10 in Rock County
Circuit Court.
