Chief Craig Melancon is reporting the successful conclusion to an otherwise fearful situation, when the two missing teenagers were located in the Houma area and safely returned to their parents in Thibodaux, Thursday night. Chief Melancon said, "We are grateful for the support of the local media in getting the information on the missing girls to the public, which ultimately played a key role in locating them."
On Thursday, October 7th, one of the missing teens telephoned her mother and advised her that they were in the 7500 block of W. Park Ave in Houma. The missing teen's mother then contacted Thibodaux Police Department Asst. Chief of Police, Calvin Cooks who relayed the information to the Houma Police Department. A Houma Police Department officer then made contact with the missing teens and transported them to the Houma Police Department. A Thibodaux Police Department officer late took custody of the teens and transported back to Thibodaux where they were interviewed. The reason as to why the teens left without advising family members remains under investigation. The investigation remains open. Information obtained by detectives suggests that several adults may have assisted the teens in leaving Thibodaux. Several arrests are expected in this case.
