CHINA Cases
The victims of a recent forced abortion are speaking out to the media about a recent forced abortion that involved a woman in there eight month of pregnancy. Construction worker Luo Yanquan has told media outlets his wife was taken kicking and screaming from their home by more than a dozen officials. The forced abortion occurred on October 10 and local family planning officials detained the woman in a hospital for three days for the abortion after learning she had violated the Chinese policy against having more than one child. There, the officials injected the unborn child with a drug that took the baby's life. The Press Association indicates the couple were told they could not have the baby because that already have a nine-year-old daughter. The case has received significant attention on the Internet because a YouTube video showed the harrowing ordeal the couple was forced to ensure. The story was initially reported by the Al-Jazeera Network, which posted its eight-minute interview with the distraught father, who hails from the coastal Chinese city of Xiamen.
The reported was able to get into the hospital to conduct the interview and would not show the distraught mother on film, but included images of her swollen belly before she delivered the body of her dead baby.“I don't know how I can possibly explain to her what has happened,” the father said of his daughter, who had eagerly been awaiting the birth of a sibling. The founder of the advocacy group All Girls Allowed talked with the Canada Free Press.“Our hearts are broken again,” said AGA founder Chai Ling, “for this family, for the suffering mother, father, and their innocent daughter, who is about to learn the cruel truth of the one-child policy through the fate of her baby brother whom she will never meet.”
“We urge all people and leaders of the free world to view this video and hear the cries of the parents and this unborn child who was simply murdered,” said Chai. “How long will the world turn a blind eye to this inhumane policy?” In a blog post at the National Catholic Register, Danielle Bean said many people may not have the stomach to read about cases like this, but she says it is important for people to understand what is happening in China, as this is not an isolated case."These are the consequences we suffer when we allow our fellow human beings in other countries to suffer under inhumane rules of law," she says. "I don't suppose I need to tell anyone that this is barbaric. Kidnapping pregnant women and forcibly injecting their pregnant wombs with poison for the “crime” of having a second child?"Bean says an NPR report indicates the local family planning officials may be engaging in a forced abortion campaign because they missed their birth reduction goals -- which pose consequences for officials such as potential job loss or loss of benefits.["A couple mourns their child and a little girl mourns her sibling because a local official needed to bring the birth rate down by .11 percent. I have no words for that," Bean concluded.
