HOLDEN RESENDEZ - 3 Months (2010)/ Charged: Father; Matthew Resendez - San Antonio - TX
DAD'S HELD IN BABIES' DEATHS
Rafael Trevino, 22, is accused of killing his 7-week-old daughter at a far West Side home Thursday morning. Liliana Trevino's mother found her unresponsive.
Matthew Resendez, 19, allegedly injured his 3-month-old son, who died at an area hospital Friday night, according to San Antonio police.
The teenager accused of killing his 3-month-old son remained jailed Sunday as investigators prepared to present evidence to a grand jury in anticipation of securing a capital murder indictment, officials said. It was the second incident in two days in which a baby died from alleged abuse at the hands of a father. Holden Resendez was allegedly beaten by his father on Thursday, and died Friday night at University Hospital after being taken off life support. The infant's father, Matthew John Resendez, 19, remained jailed Sunday on the charge for which he was initially arrested — injury to a child causing serious bodily injury. His bail was set at $100,000. But officials said the charge was to be upgraded in the event the baby died. Resendez's murder case is expected to be presented to a Bexar County grand jury. Investigators at the scene of the Thursday morning incident said the toddler had extensive injuries. The infant's skull was fractured, there was bleeding of the brain, bruising around the right eye and possible rib fractures, according to an arrest warrant affidavit. The baby was hospitalized early Thursday after EMS and police were called to an apartment in the 17000 block of Henderson Pass because the child was not breathing, San Antonio homicide Sgt. Jim Cole said. Resendez told police, “I did hurt him,” adding the boy's head hit the wooden headboard when he was placed on the bed, the affidavit said. Also on Thursday, EMS was called to the home of 7-week-old Liliana Treviño, whose mother found her not breathing. The baby was pronounced dead about 7 a.m. at the scene in the 10400 block of Medio Creek, but at the time police did not find signs of foul play. An autopsy revealed a broken left clavicle and hemorrhages to the head, according to an arrest warrant affidavit for Rafael Treviño, the child's father. Treviño, 22, was arrested Friday and remained jailed Sunday on a capital murder charge, with his bail set at $1 million.

SAN ANTONIO -- A young father accused of beating his infant son now faces a new charge.
His 3-month old child, Holden Resendez, died over the weekend.
The baby's father, 19-year-old Matthew Resendez, remains at Bexar County Jail on an upgraded capital murder charge.
Community members expressed shock.
"It's overwhelming to think someone can do that to a child," said John Barna, a resident.
David Blaha agreed.
"If this is the sign of the times, we really need to reinvent the wheel," said David Blaha, another resident.
The incident is one of several involving reported violence against children in San Antonio.
