Happy Christmas Story - The HARRIS Children (2009) - San Antonio TX

Denise Thomas has her Christmas gifts early—the adoption of her deceased sister’s three children.
“It’s like a closing to a chapter, I’m happy that they’re happy. It’s
a blessed time. “I’m grateful. I’m overjoyed,” said the mother of one,
who now finds herself a mother of five.The Harris kids first made news in an Amber-Alert in August, 2009.
Kenneth, Nichelle, and Dante Harris were caught up in an interstate
custody battle, taken to Michigan by Alfonse Harris.

The children now find themselves in front of a judge for a final time.

James Thomas said, “We finalized this. We have the kids two days before Christmas. It’s the best gift we can have.”

The family says it’s been a journey for the children. Alfonse
Harris is not related to them, but police say he abducted his ex-wife’s
kids on the day she died.

He was caught, and Michigan authorities finally relinquished the children, to be returned to Texas.
That’s when Denise and James Thomas began the adoption process.

“This is just a big release; just a big part of the stress has just been released,” said Thomas.

In the background, 13-year old Briana remains shy and quiet. As
Alfonse Harris’ biological daughter, she is the 4th child involved in
all this.

Briana had been kidnapped as well. It was her text messages that alerted the rest of the family about the abductions.

Her custody case is still ongoing. But the Thomas’ have renewed
hope she’ll be called a daughter, too, after what happened here in front
of a judge with the others.
