By Carol Parsons
Posted December 30, 2010 - 10:42am
According to Colorado City Police Chief John Bivins, an anonymous
donor has donated $1,000 to be used as a reward for the safe return of
13-year-old Hailey Dunn. Anyone with any information is urged to contact
the Colorado City Police Department by calling 325-728-5294.
Bivins also said that the department is pursuing new leads in the case.
Thirteen-year-old Hailey Dunn was last seen at 1804 Chestnut in Colorado City at 1 p.m. on Monday, December 27.
Investigators had met with family, friends and neighbors, as well as
following up leads from phone calls, according to Colorado City Interim
Police Chief John Bivins.
“Anything that has turned up, we’re urgently following up on,” he said. “There’s a little girl missing and I want her home.”
A description and photo of the missing girl have been entered in the
TCIC NCIC Region 5 broadcast system which covers surrounding counties.
Also, the information has been put on the Copsync system providing
anyone in the state with the Copsync system a picture and information on
Dunn.
“There have been lots of posts on Facebook that have not been true,”
Bivins said, including one report that the missing girl’s body had been
found in Loraine. “If she is found, the media will be the first to put
the information out. If people have questions, they are more than
welcome to contact me at the police department.”
The missing girl is currently being treated as a runaway.
“That’s what the evidence shows at the time,” Bivins said.
“We’re turning over every stone we come across,” Bivins said. “We
appreciate everyone in the community for their response. Any information
they have, we’ll follow up on all leads.”
Bivins urged anyone with any information to please come forward.
Dunn is a white female, 5'1' with hazel eyes and brown hair and pierced
ears. She was last seen wearing navy blue sweat pants, a short sleeve
light colored T-shirt and pink and white tennis shoes.

Re: HAILEY DUNN - 13 yo (2010) - Colorado City (W of Abilene) TX
An estimated 750 people attended a prayer vigil for missing teenager Hailey Dunn on Sunday night at Colorado Middle School in Colorado City.
Dunn, 13, was last seen walking from her home to a friend’s house about 1 p.m. last Monday, according to police. She had intended to spend the night with her friend, Interim Police Chief John Bivins told Colorado City radio station KVMC/KAUM.
A reward for information leading to the teenager’s return started at $1,000 from the Colorado City Police Department, climbed to $4,500 and now stands at $10,000, according to Jim Baum, owner of KVMC/KAUM.
Police at this time do not believe Dunn has met with foul play, he said. Thus, a statewide Amber Alert has not been issued for Dunn.
Posted Friday on the Colorado City Record website, Bivins said his department is considering Dunn a runaway.
“That’s what the evidence shows at the time,” Bivins said.
However, the Mitchell County community, Baum said, is gravely concerned for the teen’s safety.
“The people who knew her and her character do not believe she’d just take off and run away,” he said. “It doesn’t fit. “They feel like there is foul play.”
Baum said Dunn’s mother became “alarmed” about her daughter’s whereabouts when she did not return home Tuesday.
“It just wasn’t like her” to vanish, Baum said. “She is real popular with her teachers and with those she goes to school with.”
Baum said volunteers took part in a door-to-door search for Dunn.
He said there were about 800 candles ready for the Sunday night prayer vigil, at which several ministers spoke and asked those attending to pray for Dunn, her family and “those she might be with.”
Dunn is 5 feet. 1 inch tall and weighs 120 pounds. Her eyes are hazel in color and her hair color was described as brown with blondish streaks.
Anyone with information may call Colorado City police at 325-728-5294.

“To me, I think it’d be more than just considered runaway,” Mitchell County Sheriff Patrick Toombs told the Reporter-News on Sunday night. His agency has interviewed several of Hailey’s classmates to help Colorado City police. Toombs said Texas Rangers also have assisted in the case.
While Toombs said his agency was only assisting Colorado City, Hailey’s disappearance remains a mystery, he said.
“It’s really unknown,” Toombs said. He said he wasn’t aware that anything has been ruled out, calling some sort of abduction or coercion “still a possibility.”
“But, right now, we have not been able to confirm or deny that, of how she disappeared from town,” Toombs said.

Hailey is only 13 years old, wouldn't you think her friend, or friend's mother would have called to find out where she was when she didn't show up to spend the night? That is sad that she was missing for so long before her mom knew it. Just thinking how when my sons were that age all of us moms were in contact with one another about who was staying with whom, when and where.

Hailey Dunn
It has been a week since a 13-year-old girl from Colorado City has been missing.
Hailey Darlene Dunn was last seen on Monday, Dec. 27, at 1804 Chestnut Street in Colorado City around 1 p.m., wearing navy blue sweatpants, a short sleeved light colored T-shirt and pink and white tennis shoes. Hailey has hazel eyes, pierced ears and brown hair with blondish streaks. She is 5'1" and weighs 120 pounds.
On Friday, Dec. 31, Colorado City citizens spread throughout the city and even into Sweetwater to pass out flyers in an effort to expand the search. According to Colorado City police, investigators are following up leads from phone calls and have met with family, friends and neighbors to find the missing girl.
Hailey was on her way to a friend's house with the intention of spending the night with her friend. When she didn't return home on Tuesday, Hailey's mother became frightfully concerned about her daughter's whereabouts.
The investigation is currently being treated as a runaway. A statewide Amber Alert has not been issued, based on the fact that police do not believe Hailey has met with foul play, nor does evidence suggest a violent abduction.
On Sunday night, Jan. 2, approximately 750 people attended a prayer vigil held at the Colorado Middle School. Several ministers spoke at the vigil and urged those in attendance to pray for Hailey, her family and "those she might be with".
A $10,000 reward, initially set at $1,000 and raised from the $4,500 that was being offered on Friday afternoon, is being offered by the Colorado City Police Department for any information leading to the whereabouts and safe return of Hailey Dunn. Please call 325-728-5294 or 325-728-3161 with any information.

Texas Rangers and national media are now involved in the hunt for a Colorado City teen, who's been missing since December 27th. Monday, Rangers met with Colorado City Police and the Mitchell County Sheriff for hours.
Though they're pretty tight lipped about the investigation they did
issue a generic statement that they are investigating Hailey Darlene
Dunn's disappearance as a missing person. She was last seen December 27th, after telling her mother's boyfriend she planned to spend the night at a friends. KTXS talked to that friend who said she had no idea Hailey was coming over. Her parents say they're now beginning to fear the worst.
"There's a chance somebody abducted her," Hailey's mother Billie
Jean Dunn told us, "that's in the back of my mind because of the fact
that she didn't take anything and because this is so out of her
character. I'm pretty terrified of that." Colorado Police
Chief read aloud this statement, "Officers are working this as a missing
persons investigation, and pursuing leads to find Hailey...we will not
rest until Hailey is found. If anyone has any information on her
whereabouts, they are to contact the Colorado City Police Department at
325-728-5294. There is a $10,000 reward being offered for Hailey's safe return. Hailey's story has been picked up by CNN's Nancy Grace. Her mother also told KTXS she has talked with Headline News.

Because LE originally said that the evidence pointed to her having run away, my guess is that she lied to her Mom about staying at her friends but never intended to. The friend possibly didn't know about the lie and she and her family her family wouldn't have known she was missing. Perhaps she was going to meet someone else and stay somewhere else. The fact that she didn't come home the next day though means she is in extreme danger. I hope like hell she wasn't going to meet someone she met on the internet. That's becoming so common these days. Despite kids being warned about it most teens always think they know better and we're all paranoid fun police!ladibug wrote:Hailey is only 13 years old, wouldn't you think her friend, or friend's mother would have called to find out where she was when she didn't show up to spend the night? I hope LE and searchers have gone round to all the motels within a 50 mile radius with her photo. They are often taken to a motel it seems.

Re: HAILEY DUNN - 13 yo (2010) - Colorado City (W of Abilene) TX
Fliers of 13-year-old Hailey
Dunn can be found just about anywhere in Colorado City and the young
teen's disappearance is the talk of the town.
"It is so uncommon to have a
runaway in Colorado City and I suspect this is true in other smaller
towns," Radio Owner Jim Baum, said. "So, as much as we could put her
name, her weight, her description and her height and weight and phone
number of the mother, then that's what we did."
Baum says everyone in town is
worried about the missing teen. Members of the community even donated
$10,000 to have her safely returned home.
"To tell you the truth, this is
the first time, and I've been here 30 years, that we've had a runaway
like this. It's so uncommon," Baum said.
Police say Dunn was last seen on Monday, December 27. She was on her way to a friends house but never made it.
"Officers are working this as a
missing person's investigation and we are pursuing leads night and day
to find Hailey," Colorado City Police Chief, John Bivins, said. "We will
not rest until Hailey is found."
Police first thought she was a
runaway, but her mother and friends say she was a happy child and she
didn't take anything with her.
Now Colorado City Police, Snyder
Police, Mitchell County Sheriff's deputies, Texas Rangers and the
District Attorney's Office are searching for the girl.
After this much time has past, many fear this may be more than just a runaway case.
"First couple of days for sure a
runaway. next several days you stop and think and now after a week as a
parent myself, I worry that it's not a runaway," Baum said.
Hailey Dunn is 13-years-old and weighs about 120 pounds. She has hazel eyes and brown hair with blond streaks.
If you have any information about her whereabouts, please call the Colorado City Police at 325-728-5294.

COLORADO CITY, Texas -- Officials with the city of Colorado City tell KTXS News that the reward has been upped from $10,000 to $25,000 for the return of missing teen Hailey Dunn.
The city manager of Colorado City also told our crew on the scene that the city has three times asked that an Amber Alert to be issued, but the request has been denied three times.
Dunn was last seen Dec. 27. The Colorado Middle School student told her mother's boyfriend she was spending the night at a friend's house. However, she did not spend the night there, and she hasn't been seen since.

Texas Rangers and national media now involved in search for missing teen
snipped......
Colorado City City Manager Pete Kampfer told us both Hailey's father and friend Mary Beth said they weren't expecting a visit from Hailey. Police have not named any suspects as of Tuesday.
Hailey Dunn disappeared without a trace until bloodhounds searched the area. Officials say the dogs picked up her scent near the Western Suites off Interstate 20. Even though the dogs responded strongly to the area, there was no sign of Hailey. She was last seen with her mother's boyfriend.
Investigators say Hailey's mother's boyfriend could not take a polygraph because he was on prescription drugs. Billie Jean told Nancy Grace that her boyfriend, Adkins, would take a polygraph test Wednesday morning.

Boyfriend of Missing Girl's Mom: "I Would Never Hurt Hailey"
What was talk of the town is slowly becoming talk of the nation.
"I would never do anything to that little girl," said Shawn Adkins, boyfriend of Hailey Dunn's mother, "I love her with all my heart."
Adkins was the last person to see the missing Colorado Middle School cheerleader alive before she disappeared on December 27.
"It's frustrating, you know, what she said about me," said Adkins, "but it really doesn't bother me because my main focus is just Hailey."
Despite red flags being raised on Adkins, Hailey Dunn's mother, Billie Jean Dunn says the speculation from Nancy Grace viewers doesn't bother her.
"I just was so thankful for the attention," said Dunn, "that's all, I just wanted Hailey's face up there."

Texas Rangers, sheriff deputies, police and your average citizen are all
searching for 13-year-old Hailey Dunn who has been missing for 10 days
now.
Police are considering Hailey a missing person and
according to CNN's Nancy Grace, Hailey's mother's boyfriend, Shawn
Adkins, will be taking a polygraph exam this morning, but police have
not released any suspects at this time. Investigators had said earlier
that he could not take a polygraph because of prescription drugs.
The current reward for information leading to Hailey being returned home has been raised to $25,000.
Back on December 27th, Adkins had said Hailey was heading to
her father's house and then to her friend Mary Beth's house. Police say
neither the father nor Mary Beth said they were expecting a visit from
Hailey.
Three times, the Colorado City authorities have
been requesting an Amber Alert, but have been denied three times for
failing to meet the criteria.

Law Enforcement Confirms an Abduction
AMBER plans require law enforcement to confirm an abduction prior to issuing an alert. This is essential when determining the level of risk to the child. Clearly, stranger abductions are the most dangerous for children and thus are primary to the mission of an AMBER Alert. To allow activations in the absence of significant information that an abduction has occurred could lead to abuse of the system and ultimately weaken its effectiveness. At the same time, each case must be appraised on its own merits and a judgment call made quickly. Law enforcement must understand that a “best judgment” approach, based on the evidence, is appropriate and necessary.
Risk of Serious Bodily Injury or Death
Plans require a child be at risk for serious bodily harm or death before an alert can be issued. This element is clearly related to law enforcement’s recognition that stranger abductions represent the greatest danger to children. The need for timely, accurate information based on strict and clearly understood criteria is critical, again keeping in mind the “best judgment” approach.
Sufficient Descriptive Information
For an AMBER Alert to be effective in recovering a missing child, the law enforcement agency must have enough information to believe that an immediate broadcast to the public will enhance the efforts of law enforcement to locate the child and apprehend the suspect. This element requires as much descriptive information as possible about the abducted child and the abduction, as well as descriptive information about the suspect and the suspect’s vehicle. Issuing alerts in the absence of significant information that an abduction has occurred could lead to abuse of the system and ultimately weaken its effectiveness.
