The suspect in a horrific double-murder in West Virginia was found dead in Dauphin County. The man was wanted for stabbing his estranged wife and 8-year-old son to death.
The story begins in Wellsburg, W.V., where a family member found Melinda Allen and her 8-year-old son, Ethan Brown, both stabbed to death. Melinda was in the bedroom, the little boy in the hallway.
Investigators believe her estranged husband, Abraham Allen, killed them Wednesday morning.
The family member also found the couple's 2-year-old son in the home, unharmed.
Abraham's last known address was on Lescure Court in Susquehanna Township. When officers were one block away, they found his car.
"We surrounded the house with our patrol force. We gathered more information about the homicide and that's when I elected to activate the Dauphin County Crisis Response Team," said Chief Robert Martin.
It was a frightening scene for neighbors on this usually quiet cul de sac.
"It's scary, because it's very serious. There's never a problem here," said neighbor Kolyo Sopotski.
"This wasn't the first time officers had heard of Abraham Allen. They were also called to the home in 2009 when he allegedly made a threat against his wife.
"You're dealing with someone who just committed two murders, is on the run and desperate, so every precaution needs to be made," said Martin.
After several hours, the SERT team fired tear gas in the home, then went inside. They found Abraham dead, after apparently hanging himself with a belt.
Investigators said they were never able to establish contact with him.
"Absolutely none. I believe he had been dead for several hours before our arrival on scene," said Martin.
Neighbors said Abraham bought the house in 2008, but his wife soon left him. They hadn't seen Abraham at the now-vacant home in more than one year.
