Edmond woman faces child abuse charge
EDMOND – An Edmond woman is facing a felony child abuse charge after she allegedly threw her seven-week-old son onto the ground last December.
Katherine Pasquali, 19, pleaded not guilty to the charge during her arraignment last week.
An affidavit filed with Oklahoma County Court says a doctor at OU Children’s Hospital noted non-accidental head trauma after the Pasquali’s son was checked into the hospital on December 21st.
According to the affidavit, the child had suffered a fractured skull, subdural hematoma, and retinal damage. He is now in protective custody.
The affidavit notes that during a police interview with Pasquali, “She stated that she actually threw [her son] to the ground and he hit his head on the tile floor. …She stated that she was on her knees and she threw [her son] to the ground with force.”
Edmond Police say after speaking with Pasquali, they feel she knew what she was doing to her child.
"She knew that it hurt the baby, she even said that she knew that it hurt the baby at the time and she didn't call 9-1-1, she didn't try to get help for the baby at the time," said Glynda Chu with the Edmond Police Department.
According to the affidavit, a witness told police she thought Pasquali would have a hard time being a mother.
We tried to reach Pasquali at her residence for comment, but got no response.
A preliminary hearing is set for April 7th.
