A woman is facing charges at this hour after lawmen say she was
found in Halifax County with two boys she's accused of kidnapping from Virginia.
Halifax County lawmen say they charged 26-year-old
Sommer Pannell with possession of a stolen vehicle. They also served a
fugitive warrant from Virginia authorities, charging Pannell with
abduction of children and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
Pannell was found with Ta'Vyion Blockett, 5, and
Dante Blockett, Jr., 6, of Newport News, Va. early Monday morning in the
parking lot of Oak Grove Baptist Church on US 158 near Littleton in
Halifax County, according to the Halifax County Sheriff's Office.
The two boys are safe.
The search started Sunday afternoon.
Yovanda Bennafield told Newport News police her boys were
kidnapped by a woman who came into the Shell station where she was
working. Multiple media reports say a woman came into the gas station
asking about a ride to North Carolina. Bennafield says she told the
woman she would drive her when her shift ended. Bennafield asked the
stranger to watch her children in the meantime, whom she had taken to
work with her that day. Bennafield says she gave the woman her two boys
and the keys to her SUV and suggested they go to a nearby park.
Bennafield says they never came back. Police then issued the Amber Alert.

Amber Alert canceled for missing Virginia boys
Raleigh, N.C. — State authorities canceled an Amber Alert Monday morning for two young Virginia boys after they were found safe in Halifax County.
The alert was issued in North Carolina earlier Monday after police in Newport News, Va., suspected Ta'Vyion Blockett, 5, and Dante Blockett, Jr., 6, could be traveling with Sommer LaRouche Pannell, 20, to Greensboro.
Authorities said the boys' mother knows Pannell and asked her to take the children across the street to a park, but Pannell drove away with the boys, prompting an Amber Alert.
A Northampton County resident heard the alert and called police, who then found the boys safe and unharmed. The case will be handled by the Halifax County Sheriff's Office. No other information was released.
