"Toddler Jane Doe" - 3 yo/ Accused: Martwain Mackey - Phoenix AZ

Phoenix police have arrested an 18-year-old man on suspicion of
killing his girlfriend’s 3-year-old daughter and abusing the girl’s 1-year-old sister.



Martwain Mackey called 911 just before 2 a.m. Saturday from a pay
phone near 15th Avenue and Bethany Home Road, police Sgt. Steve Martos
said. Mackey told the 911 operator that the girl was not breathing.
Martos said Mackey was holding the 3-year-old’s unresponsive body
when police arrived at the scene. Officers noticed there had been some trauma to the girl.
Police said Mackey admitted to abusing both girls before he was taken
into custody. He will be charged with first-degree murder and two
counts of child abuse, Martos said.
Police found the injured 1-year-old in a nearby apartment, where her
mother was sleeping. The girl was taken to a hospital in stable condition.
Martos said the woman works at night and had left the children with
her boyfriend, whom she had been dating for six months. It was not clear
how long Mackey had been abusing the little girls, he said.
Police continue to investigate.
