Rochester, N.Y. - Johan Butler says his daughter was his best friend. He
cried as he appealed for help finding his 17-year-old daughter.

Larie Butler's mother, Karen Snipes, says it isn't like Larie to go off without telling her parents and not to call them.

Karen says Larie loved her phone and always called when she's was going to be late.

Larie
told her mother she was going to Marketplace Mall Saturday and that she
loved her. Karen says that was the last time she heard from the teen.

"Scared
to death". Larie's parents say they are worried for her safety and are
begging anyone with information about their daughter to call police.

They just want Larie home.

Family and friends have hung up posters of Larie throughout the city and on cars.

A bright pink bouquet of flowers is tied to a tree in front of the family's house, to welcome Larie home.

As we spoke with Larie's parents, a State Police helicopter flew overhead, searching for the teenager.

Rochester Police are investigating this as a missing person. A statewide alert was issued Monday.

Larie is an honor student at East High. Her principal and the school are appealing to the community to help find her.

Larie is part of the ROTC program and hopes to become a nurse someday.

Right
now her parents just want her to come home. Karen Snipes told us: "I
just want someone to help me find my daughter. It's been four days. Four
days too long for me."

The mother of missing Chili teen Brittanee Drexel is reaching out to the family of a Rochester girl, missing since Saturday.

Dawn Drexel now works for the CUE Center for Missing Persons. Tuesday
night, she met with the family of Larie Butler to offer support and
help.

"I want to be there because I know as a mother what they're going
through and unfortunately there's not a handbook for when your child
goes missing. And that's one thing I stress a lot, there are resources
out there to help you," says Drexel.

Next month, April 25th, will mark three years since Brittanee Drexel was last seen on spring break in South Carolina.

Rochester, N.Y.— As Johan Butler hands a flier to each passing stranger, you can see the desperation in his eyes.

Butler’s
daughter, 17-year-old Larie Butler, has been missing since Saturday and
her family is growing more and more anxious as each day passes.

On
Wednesday, the Rochester Police Department said that they have no
reason to believe Larie is a runaway. They believe that she may be in
danger and describe her disappearance as “suspicious”.

Wednesday
night Larie’s friends and family continued to search for her by passing
out fliers with her picture and description. They went to parts of the
city and also to Marketplace Mall. The mall was where she told her mom
she was headed before disappeared.

According to police, around
3:30 Saturday, March 24 , Larie told her mom a friend was picking her up
and they were going to Marketplace Mall. That was the last time her
family heard from her.

The friend Larie said she was going to
the mall with was a male acquaintance who has told police that he and
Larie did go to the mall but he claims he dropped her off around 7 or
7:30 p.m. near East High School.

On Wednesday, RPD said the man is no longer cooperating with police.

“He’s
not answering any questions anymore,” says Johan Butler. “That’s got me
hurting inside. I don't know if he knows anything, but please tell
somebody. Anybody. Just say something. Don't have my daughter out here
like this with parents worrying where she is.”

Police would not
confirm whether or not mall security footage shows Larie at the mall,
but just in case, her family and friends passed out fliers to mall-goers
in hopes someone was there Saturday and saw her.

“I still hear
her voice in my head saying ‘Dad’,” says Johan as he chokes back tears.
“I'm trying to find her now. I’m trying to find my daughter and I will. I
will.”

Laurie is a junior at East High School. She is 5 feet
tall and about 125 pounds. She was last seen wearing a white hooded
sweatshirt, jeans and pink Nike sneakers.

Police say they found a body in an Irondequoit swimming pool that they believe is that of a missing teenager.

On Thursday, police searched the home of the grandmother of the last
person reported to have seen 17-year-old Larie Butler. The body was
found in a pool next door to this home.

Police have not said whether or not they have a suspect in custody.

Rochester and Irondequoit police executed a search warrant at 174
Dorington Rd. Thursday. They confirmed it was related to the search for
the girl, who has been missing since Saturday.

Neighbors said
the home belongs to an elderly woman. A police source said the woman is
the grandmother of an "acquaintance" of Larie Butler who told police he
dropped her off in the area of East High School Saturday evening.

Police said they cannot confirm the acquaintance's account and he is no longer cooperating with their investigation.

Larie Butler’s mother would not identify the person, but said he is an 18-year-old "family friend."

Police entered the home on Dorington wearing gloves. Tech units and
homicide detectives participated in the search, which took several
hours. Neighbors said there has been a police presence on the street for
several days.

Late Thursday afternoon, police began to focus the investigation on the neighbor's pool.
A helicopter was also seen in the area.

Irondequoit, N.Y.— It was news that sent Karen Snipes collapsing to the ground.

Police said a female body found in a covered pool was likely her missing daughter, 17-year-old Larie Butler.

“It
didn’t turn out the best like I wanted it to be, but find this dude!”
said Snipes as she wept uncontrollably. “Find him now! Please find him!
Please find him!”

Earlier Thursday, police executed a search
warrant at 174 Dorington Road in Irondequoit. The home belongs to the
grandmother of the man who was the last person to see Larie alive.

During
that search investigators canvassed the area and found that next door, a
brick on top of tarp covering an in-ground pool had been moved.
Firefighters then pumped that pool and found a body.

“Obviously
the medical examiner’s office has to do their work to make a positive
identification, but we do have reason to believe it's probably [Larie
Butler],” says Rochester Deputy Police Chief Mike Cook.

Police would not comment on who their suspect is, but Thursday night, no one was in police custody.

Larie
disappeared Saturday, March 24, after she told her mom that a male
friend was picking her up to take her to Marketplace Mall.

Larie never made it back home.

Larie’s
parents describe the friend as an 18-year-old “family friend”. He told
police that he and Larie went to the mall and that he dropped her off
near East High School around 7:00 and 7:30 Saturday night. However,
during a press conference on Wednesday, police said the friend had
stopped answering questions and cooperating with authorities.

One
neighbor, who did not want to be identified, told 13WHAM News that he
had also suggested to police to look in the pool at the home next door
to 174 Dorington. Police had drained another pool on the same street as a
part of the investigation earlier in the week. The neighbor said he
knew the pool next door to 174 Dorington was seldom used or open.

Another neighbor, Susan Kazak, says the people living at 174 Dorington are very quiet.

“They keep their business quiet and you rarely see people there,” Kazak says.

She
believes she’s also seen a girl matching Larie’s description around
Dorington Road before. The reason she could tell was because of the pink
shoes the girl wore.

Larie was last seen in pink sneakers.

“It was a cold day and she had a gray sweatshirt on and her pink sneakers,” Kazak says. “The pink sneakers stood out to me.”

Irondequoit, N.Y.— On Friday evening, 20-year-old DeVante Lively pleaded not guilty to the murder of 17-year-old Larie Butler.
Lively
turned himself into police around 1 p.m. Friday afternoon. Police were
looking for him after Larie’s body was found in a covered swimming pool
at a house next door to Lively’s grandmother.
Irondequoit
Police say that they found evidence of a crime in Lively’s
grandmother’s basement and that Larie had suffered trauma to her upper
body.
Lively was the last person to see Larie alive.
He initially told police that he took Larie to the mall and then dropped
her off near East High School on Saturday, March 24 around 7 p.m. but
Larie never made it home.
On Friday night, the district attorney’s office told 13WHAM that they believe Larie was killed on March 24 around 7:06 p.m.
Lively
made his first court appearance on Friday for his arraignment. Several
members of Larie’s family were there and had to be comforted as they
faced the man who police believe is their daughter’s killer.
Lively
is not entitled to bail for a felony second-degree murder charge in
town court, so he will remain in jail until his preliminary hearing on
April 5 at 11:30 a.m.
The assistant district attorney, Kelly Wolford, also presented a grand jury notification to the defense.
During
the proceedings, Lively was quiet and subdued. At one point, there was a
small outburst from someone in the courtroom who yelled, “I hate you!”
The situation was quickly calmed and court was adjourned.
Larie’s
family describes Lively as a family and a friend. Larie’s mother, Karen
Snipes, says Lively’s family is a married into hers.
Rochester Police said on Friday that they do not suspect the two had a romantic relationship.
Authorities are still investigating a motive in this case. For now, police believe Lively acted alone in this crime.

Rochester, N.Y.- Hundreds of people attended a vigil Saturday night to remember the life of 17-year-old Larie Butler.

The
teen's body was found in a pool on Dorington Road in Irondequoit
Thursday. Police aren’t saying how she was killed but say she suffered
trauma to her upper body.

Police have charged DeVante Lively, 20, with second-degree murder in Butler's death.

Saturday's vigil was held outside the Butler family home.

People held candles and prayed for Butler's family.

The night was about togetherness, support, and most importantly - love.“I feel loved, I really do feel loved,” said Larie’s mother, Karen Snipes.
Whether they knew Larie Butler or not, hundreds came.
“Speaking
as a father, I couldn't imagine and I can't imagine what the mother and
father are going through right now,” said supporter Bryant Carter
“Help the families to know they have support and they're not alone,” said supporter Debbie Palermo-Samas.
“When
you have a child go missing, support means a lot,” said supporter Dawn
Drexel, whose daughter went missing in 2009. “It needs to be a united
effort with the community, friends, family or people that don't know
her, it means the world.”
If you didn't know Larie, you got a better idea of what she was like Saturday night.
“I
want people to remember what a good child my daughter was. She got
along with everybody, she helped out with others when they needed to be
helped out,” Snipes said. “I lost my best friend.”
Underneath the tears, illuminated by the candles was a message for parents and their children.
“Tell
your kids to be careful, you may think they're your friends but someone
always has a hidden agenda somewhere so just tell your kids to be more
careful with who they're with,” said one supporter.
“Parents please, all of you guys that have girls, even boys, just watch them,” Snipes says.

Funeral arrangements have been made for missing Rochester teen Larie Butler.
Her wake will be this Thursday from 6:00-9:00pm at Aenon Baptist Church
on Genesee Street. Her funeral will be on Friday at the same church at
10:00am.

20-year-old Devante Lively has been charged in connection to her
murder. Police believe the body found in a swimming pool in an
Irondequoit neighborhood last week is Larie Butler. The Medical
Examiner’s Office hasn’t identified her body yet.
